Saw this for the 1st time last night. Effortlessly cool, and the visuals and mood of the piece were certainly an inspiration for Refn's Drive. Hill had a great run of striped down genre movies such as this, The Long Riders, Southern Comfort, 48hrs.

I immediately really want to see Hard Times all the more now!

Same here! No idea why I'd never seen it before. Lean story and fantastic chase sequences. Right up my street!

I'll be purchasing this. I'm a fan of Walter Hill and a fan of Refn's Drive, and haven't seen this. I expect this to be a good blind buy.

Hard Times is great. For my money, it edges out The Driver, but I'm a massive Coburn/Bronson fan, and not so much a Ryan O'Neal man.

Watched mine last weekend. PQ and AQ are brilliant. Shame the extras are limited though.
Does this bluray release contain the US cut (as recently issued by TT) or the slightly longer European cut (by about 2 minutes)?

It does contain (which some consider superfluous) the prologue, whereas the US version doesn't.

The TT release has preserved the grain much better.

But only really noticeable with your face up against the screen.

Seeing as though the TT release is OOP and not going for cheap, I suppose the DE release (UK release presumably the same, but with an English DTS-HD MA 2.0 track), is the next best thing.

I wouldn't exactly say much better. The difference is minimal even zoomed in and I doubt will be noticeable in motion. The TT disc disc is still available btw. Personally, I'm gad I held off as I'd been building up to order it when the UK one was announced. Much prefer the TT art though.

I am not referring to this prologue, but rather to a 2 min. scene between the driver and the player at about the 39 min. mark. In this scene, the player goes to visit the driver in his place and they carry out some innocuous banter, but the player also hints that she is looking for some possible adventure. This scene basically lays the foundation for a later scene where the driver calls the player for help in his hotel room.

For some reason, all US home media prints (DVD and blu) are missing this scene. I was hoping that the UK or DE release (both by Studiocanal) would contain this scene intact.

My question has been answered by the review on this site. This is indeed the extended version. Great news indeed and I am placing my order immediately.

Pretty pissed that I shelled for the TT release only to find months later that the UK were getting it as well.
On top of that it appears the UK release offers the definitive presentation

I also got TT release of Rapture which again gets a UK release heyho

I'll be double dipping on the Driver when the price drops to single figures and from now on will be less willing to jump in on every attractive TT release unless it's close to selling out.

Don't suppose there is much hope to be informed of upcoming releases earlier in the future from competitors

You can be happy in the knowledge that the TT release has much better artwork though.

Never knew there was a missing scene. This has become one of my favorite movies, and I'll eventually have to double dip for this title. Annoyed that Twilight Time didn't even bother to get the uncut version.
