Not really a trick but a couple of cool XMB details you may not have noticed:

Grey (Original theme) XMB icons (Settings icons, Memory Stick, Playlists etc.) aren't just translucent, they magnify and offset the animated wave or picture behind them. The Internet Search magnifying glass also does this but the lens additionally has a constant circular shine animation and internal reflection so as the background wave animates past it you'll see the wave details pass greatly magnified in the opposite direction.

don't forget the 'hidden' recovery menu since we're talking about tricks.

with the ps3 in standby mode, hold the power button until you hear 2 beeps. if it only beeps once and just resets the video settings. shut it off and do it again.

Im very curious about this one. Has anyone used this?? how well does it work, how good can you talk/see? Is it a Picture-in-Picture size, or full screen? good resolution?

does it need to be in game or can you chat from the XMB?

Im gonna be having my first child around May and this would be an excellent way to let my folks in Florida see the kid. (yes, I convinced my dad to buy a PS3 a while back! now I think I know what to get him for christmas.

Isn't point 4 an excellent way to risk a virus on your PS3 ?

How is point 8 possible ? cause I got a friend who purchased Wipeout HD on the PSN, so how do I transfer that onto my PS3 ???

there are no viruses for the ps3.

8 is possible, but isn't talked about here because sharing with people is illegal

Another thing I didn't see mentiond yet , prolly cuz its that obvious... Custom themes & wallpaper is a really nice feature & the combos are endless ! Hope this helps someone who might be new to the PS3 game, or someone who just might not have known...?

I had to change my IP to static instead of the default dynamic on my wireless router... Was a bit of a pain but havent had any trouble since... I guess with dynamic your IP changes all the time and the PS3 wouldn't find it... Hope that helps.

Turn on windows media player and allow device connection.

Just share your mp3 folder and make Network Discovery available and set your PS3 setting in Media discovery thing or whatever it is to ON.

Or use Tversity.

so you have ZERO internet connection, or just not able to get onto a media server?

(I believe you need windows media player 11 (?))

I have 100% Internet connection & Media Player 11. I'm still messing with it though.

not sure if youve done this...but in WMP11 go to Library - Media Sharing

In the PS3 scan for Media Server, and allow it in WMP11

I have, anyone with a PSeye will be shown in a small window, which can be enlarged to full screen, resolution is not bad, but it depends on if they are using the old PS eye or the new one. If they do not have the PSeye, you will see their PSN icon and when that person talks, their icon kinda pulses, so you know who is taking.

You can do this right from the XMB friends list, just select a friend and send a chat invite. You can also send pictures when in video chat, to one or all.
