The price for the complete collection is great. September will be a pretty expensive month, so I'll unfortunately have to wait a little to get this one.

Broken up into the same sets as the Spanish releases, will be interesting to hear how the quality compares and whether they fix the issues the Spanish set had (ie no night filter applied to Sign of Four/The Three Gables upscaled)

This is quite the set for all Sherlockians. At some point this will be in my collection but at the price (which is still a great deal) it makes me push it back on my priority list.

I'm not trying to start something, though. We all love Sherlock

Default Japan set rocks!

I am not sure if this has been mentioned, but the Japanese set has lossless audio and looks great. I haven't watched the whole thing yet, so I am not sure about the shot correction stuff, but it sounds and looks amazing. LPCM audio in both English and Japanese dub. I think it has extras (according to amazon JP) but I am not sure what they are because I haven't gotten to them yet. the boxset is great and comes with an amazing book in Japanese. The price is salty however (around 350 bucks right now). It is a 12-disc set divided into 2 digipacks of 6 discs each. how many discs in the Spanish release? am debating if i should sell my UK remastered set or keep it; it is pretty awesome.

But like bigshot said, the Spanish set seems to include all the same episodes and only goes for about 46 euros (I believe the price amazon gives if you're logged in with a US account includes shipping to the US), or about 63 dollars. It's possible the US set will have better PQ or more special features, but there's no real info to suggest that yet.

10 discs, 2 for each of the ones mentioned in the US release:

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes Blu-ray

The Return of Sherlock Holmes Blu-ray

The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes Blu-ray

The Sherlock Holmes Feature Film Collection Blu-ray

The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes Blu-ray

What are the extra 2 discs in the UK release?

Sorry, I misworded it! The set I have is from Japan. That is the set with 12 Blu-ray discs. Like I said, amazon.jp mentions "bonus features," but since I haven't finished the set I can't confirm it. The episodes are spread between all 12 discs though and they seem to have more room to breath than the Spanish set, along with the lossless LPCM 2.0 audio. Includes Japanese dub, as well as subtitles in Japanese and English. The only extras I can confirm are the huge Japanese booklet and there is a cool episode guide that comes with it; all in Japanese though, of course.

CDJapan mentions extra scenes as extras (not quite sure what that means).

It is about 150 bucks cheaper on amazon.jp.

The UK set I mentioned was the remastered DVD set from 2009; no extras on that one.

I already have the complete series on DVD. Considering that this is a TV show from the 80s, will the Blu ray be that much of an upgrade?

It was shot on 16mm film so it should be something of an upgrade (haven't seen the DVDs to compare), but not as much as things shot on 35mm. For comparison take a look at the DVD vs. blu ray version of Evil Dead on caps-a-holic here, since that was also shot on 16mm.

Night and Day Difference - No

Best it has ever looked - Most Definitely

I got the Spanish discs last year and even though they are relatively low bitrate they still look fantastic with tons of fine detail that was previously hidden in the SD haze.

The episode 'The Three Gables' was an upscale (I assume they lost the original negative) and it was really quite jarring going from HD to SD, it truly looked awful in comparison.

If not there are plenty of other choices with it being available in France, Germany and Spain.
