Brotherhood is one of my favorite series of all time. I'm watching the original now. It's great to have two different universes (three with the manga) to see these characters in different journeys.

Brotherhood adapts the manga. So technically still just 2 universes.

Yes, but it is also missing a vast amount of content. The ending may be the same, but the journey takes a few different paths.

Other than religious symbols edited out and the abridged start (Due to it being covered in the first FMA series). What other changes were made to the Brotherhood anime the made it different from the manga?

The anime added the word "brotherhood" to the title

The Abriged start. Which is exactly what I said. I didn't say they were different, I said that you don't get the full story with Brotherhood. You have to read the manga to get the whole thing. Hence, three experiences.

It being abridged isn't a bad thing though. When I first saw Brotherhood, I remember thinking "when do we get to the new stuff. I know they start off the same, but I didn't think it would take so long. Waiting. Still waiting. Oh good, new stuff!"
