Probably not. The 3D disc has Russian etc dubs and subs so it has to be at least region A&C compatible.

That is some good thinking right there mate, excellent point.

I would love to have it definitely confirmed by someone though.

Me too...I ordered the US version after reading that it was region free! Won't be able to tell until Friday if it's locked.

Ok both discs are region free.

However I ordered the Canadian version which lists the Dragon racers mini film, commentary, and 1 hour making of on the back cover...however they are missing on the 2D disc! The disc has the exact specs as the US release down to the Audio / subtitles etc but the features are just not there.

Can the disc check what region my player is and omit them from the menu??? This is bizarre!

Another member who imported the Peabody Sherman US release has stated that a short film is missing from that also. It should be there but isn't...

It seems Fox has put something on the disc to be able to identify which region your player is and can then omit features from the menu if the player is identified as region B.

Wow...that's such a shitty thing to pull! And I spent a lot of money to import the North American release just for these features!

Sounds like you need to buy yourself a region 'A' bluray disc spinner!

You can code BDs to display different menus depending upon the region of the player and also on the country you have specified for menus in the player setup. I have read many Warner BD disks have the Japanese options hidden so you only see them if the player is set to Japan.
Also remember when Fox in Europe were naughty and illegal sold Conan the Barbarian in the UK with the BBFC banned uncut version on the disk. If your player was set to English you got the UK approved cut version, any other language you got it uncut.

Aye and there's Roadkill/Joyride, which plays the relevant title card depending on what region the player is. So Fox have form in this regard.

I've ordered the US disc. No idea when it'll get here, (as it was ebay), but I have dedicated Region A and B players and it'll be interesting to see if the disc does block certain options on the B player.

It would be even more interesting to see whether putting the UK disc in your Region A player unblocks:
  • Dawn of the Dragon Racers (1080p; 26:37)
  • Commentary by Simon Otto, Bonnie Arnold, Dean DeBlois and Pierre-Olivier Vincent.
  • Where No One Goes: The Making of How to Train Your Dragon 2 (1080p; 54:40)

Can anyone confirm whether the language options available on the UK 2D disc match those on the US 2D disc?
