This is good news. I kind of hated the film the first time I saw it, due to the
[Show spoiler]main character doing stupid things
, but I wanted to give it another shot. I do prefer the DVD artwork to this though.

I, for one, would love to upgrade my old DVD of Breakdown. That's an awesome little 1990s neo-noir/thriller.

It's not to be confused with The Vanishing, though.

At first I was like "WTF? The DVD cover is so much better". Now that I understand the concept, AMAZING! Great job Criterion, as always

A powerful, engrossing and provocative movie.

A little trivia:

"Stanley Kubrick thought the film "The Vanishing" was the most terrifying film he had seen—even more frightening than The Shining, and it led to Kubrick 'phoning the Dutch filmmaker to discuss editing'"
Wow is all I can say as it is truly outstanding and original.

Just love Dutch movies

I still prefer the DVD cover because when I look at it, I'm instantly taken back to that haunting hopeless feel of the movie. But the new cover has grown on me too, and I think it's a very cool concept for the subject matter. With that said, I don't care for the teal color, which just seems a bit too garish. I don't know if they did it to make it easier to see, but I'd prefer something a little darker in tone, to match the tone of the film better.

Something along the lines of this:

You do have to look at the cover from afar. I was looking at it too close at first and didn't see her face. I like it.

The ending of this film still gives me the creeps.

This seems priced far too high to me. Two interviews and that's it? I could see a $40 retail if there were a few more worthwhile extras, but I'm not sure I can justify a price that high simply for a better transfer alone. I really want this, too...that just seems like an unreasonably high MSRP.

Oh, that's the plan for sure. But it still doesn't excuse a price point so inexplicably steep. I shouldn't have to wait for an essentially bare-bones release to be marked down 50% for it to be affordable.

The main character doesn't so much just "do stupid things" in the way teenage victims act in slasher movies, the point is that he has become obsessive to a degree where it seriously impairs his judgement. It isn't even about love for his girlfriend anymore it is about a need to know what happend as an end in itself to a degree where it overrides anything else.

If you like slow burners, you are in for a treat. Both are among my favorites.

I love a good psychological horror/thriller, especially older films. I can't explain it.
