Both. The store should stop selling defective products, and the distributor should offer replacements to people who already obtained the defective items.

This is exactly what happened with the Lethal Weapon 4-Film Collection, btw. Best Buy pulled it from their shelves instead of selling the defective version to customers and telling them to go complain to Warner.

What has been the distributors response then? It might be they just supplied the wrong file to iTunes in error.

Someone with the Blu next week might be able to do a comparison.
I was able to get a screen grab to match ColinD's shot:

VUDU has the correct aspect ratio. Why was a 2.40:1 version created in the first place? Seems very, very weird.

If VUDU got the right aspect ratio then there must've been a mistake between the studio and iTunes in terms of the file they received. If it was across all digital platforms, then it would've been either a massive mistake or at the behest of the director, the change in aspect ratio.

This is really unusual. I mean you often see films in the wider 2.35:1 aspect ratio cropped or opened up to 1.85:1 or 1.78:1 for broadcast TV to get rid of the 'black bars', but you never see something that is 1.85:1 converted to 2.35:1/2.40:1. I mean they are cropping the image in a whole different way where the letterboxing is actually covering detail that was meant to be seen.

Again, this has to be an error for VUDU to get the correct aspect ratio while iTunes didn't.

Exactly. This almost seems like somehow a constant height fetishist got into Paramount's or iTunes' servers and cropped the image so that the movie would fill his CIH projector setup.

Still strange regardless of if it was a error or not.

Yep it does seem very weird that it was created. However as I recently discovered from another user of this board, it seems fairly easy for distributors to make (minor) mistakes submitting files to iTunes.

Interestingly the UK version is listed as 5.87gb while the US one with the cropping is listed as 5.54gb... UK iTunes also lists 20th Century Fox as the distributors - is this the correct version??! Or is this also wrong? It'll be interesting to see when its released in the UK (next week).

Do we know if its cropped for sure? There could actually be more picture information in that scene.

agreed, but it appears to be a very tight shot film throughout by looking at these...

until he post an identical shot from one of those screenshots, we wont knoe for sure.

The reviewer picked a lot of close-up shots, yes, but that's not how the entire film appears.

Besides, I took a screencap of the same time as ColinD.

Could you confirm if the aspect ratio has been fixed?
