Whether or not I like 3D does not change the fact that Disney is unhappy with actual 3D sales numbers.

It really shows that they are nothing more than a money hungry Company then. What will they do when Avatar comes out or Star Wars i am sure 3D sales will be very good for them. Even big superhero movies has done quite good sales everywhere.

Just look at BD.com and eBay right now, though -- flooded with 3D discs taken out of the Cap Amer 2 sets. This is what Disney is trying to avoid.

I really do not get what you are saying here?

By the way if Disney feel this way then i do not see them releasing 4K discs at all since sales for them would likely be even lower than 3D discs. And 3D sales isnt even that bad with 10-12% for just Spider-Man 2 and then comes all the other 3D movies adding in on those 10-12%

The market is flooded with 3D discs being sold for as little as $5. That tells the studios that people aren't watching them for whatever reason (they don't have 3D hardware at home or simply don't like 3D). Also, they'd rather make the money themselves instead of the secondary market.

The only way to minimize this behavior is to have completely separate releases; in other words eliminate the combo pack. The same thing is done with the DVD copies. Have one release with a 3D BD disc only, another with only the 2D BD, and a third for DVD only.

The studios do that in other countries already.

I Can definitely see you have no stakes in 3D at all. But try and put yourself in the 3D blu ray fans shoes and see how we feel about this crappy policy by the money hungry Company known as Disney that is screwing their consumers over. The same consumers that has made this Company such a monster Corporation. That is not right what they are doing here at all we all should boycott it with the way they are treating their faithful customers

My comments would be the same even if I invented 3D. Reality and facts are not subjected to one's format preferences.

Also, at this point, a boycott would send the wrong message to Disney. They would think that everyone wants to watch movies online instead of on BD.

Not if people boycott ALL of Disney. I would NEVER buy anything online either way

Not sure if I agree with 4k sales being lower than 3D, especially after the initial saturation period is over, and hardware prices drop to more "everyday consumer friendly" levels.
Keep in mind that 3D for some people is not an option because they are physically unable to enjoy it properly due to vision complications. Those same complications would not affect 4k playback. Granted this is probably a very small percentage, but a percentage nonetheless.
3D just never took off, in the US, like it did in other parts of the world.
As far as Disney and how the handle their home media, well IMO it's a mixed bag! Just look at the Captain America 2 release. The 3D version received a digital copy and slipcover(yes many people like and therefore purchase these), while the 2D version had neither. Then you get other releases that have no 3D at all, like this one.
I can't be certain, but I swear all these little cost cutting moves Disney has made seemed to happen right after they paid George Lucas the $4 Billion.
I guess what I considered the most reliable studio out there, just can't afford to be as reliable. Yes, kind of a bummer...but just another bummer in a long line of bummers, during a decades long passion of home video collecting.

You do know Cap 2 got a regular 3D blu ray release also and Guardians will to. And i think you couldn't be more wrong. For 4K to work you need a new tv, you need a new player and if you want a projector to play 4K you need a new projector to. With 3D most people already has the things they need. Trust me on this most already is happy with blu ray. So the sales for 4K would be even lower than 3D discs which isnt even that bad when blockbusters like Spider-Man 2 got 13% the first week of release and 2nd week 12% and then comes all the other 3D blu rays on top of that.

I specifically mentioned CA2 getting a 3D release, not sure what you mean?
How am I wrong? I mentioned 4k hardware upgrades(TV/player)? Did you even read what I wrote?
Just like 3D, all 4k hardware will be backwards compatible, to help usher in the product. As I mentioned, most likely, given enough time/market saturation, 4k hardware will drop in price. All new technology does as it becomes more widespread and cheaper to manufacture.
I was just pointing out, to you, that regardless of cost, 3D as it stands now just can't work for some people, due to visual constraints. That's part of the human body, and can't be changed(in some cases).
Neither you, nor I can predict what will happen with either tech: 3D/4k, but I can guarantee that someone who was unable to, properly, view 3D due to a visual impairment, might be able to fully enjoy 4k.
Now how many of those types of people there are, I have no idea. I guess we'll find out in a couple years of 4k market penetration.

I'm one of those people. I can't view 3D and nothing will change that for me. 4K and any other format I can view without any problems and I know many people who are in the same predicament as me.

Once 4K gets cheaper and becomes the norm many more people will start to buy and support the format. 3D looses out on people that will never be able to view it while 4K won't have that problem.

I think I might get the Best Buy exclusive slip for this one. It's pretty cool!
