The poster said the picture floats right off the screen, and boy they weren't kidding. I was sitting about 60 feet from the screen. The opening scene with the airplane wing about 2 feet from my face. The tray of beers floating under you nose. And in another section where a pair of hideous hands actually looked like they touched my throat. Its a movie I never forgot. However I was sad to hear that the original cuts taken from the road show are no longer available. They did help explain the story. I bought the analgraph Rhino DVD, but the 3d was terrible. It also made the story a little harder to follow. I think the actors did a terrific job, but you need a good imagination to follow the story. The first time I went to see it I sat through the movie 3 times. I went back to see it the next weekend a watched it 3 more times. In other words I thought it was a great movie and still do. Thanks Bob for bringing a great movie to Blue Ray. First day it is available for pre order it will be a must buy.
That's very interesting, thank you for sharing your memories.

We have the final shooting script and in my opinion, the cuts really don't harm the film. They're all dialogue and much of it takes place in the hospital. We searched for the trims but they're long gone.
How much would you say the missing trims add up to in running time?

The original was 112 and this version should be 94.

It might be a few weeks. They're still working on the cover design.

Just as soon as I hear something, I'll be sure to let you know.

The question of different running times on the film is currently being researched and will be answered very soon.

I've gotten a few questions about multiple running times for THE BUBBLE listed in books and on-line. Supposedly, the film is either 112 or 94 minutes in length.

We have a 35mm print from the 1972 Sherpix re-issue and it is 91 minutes.

The 94 minute length (actually 93:29) is from the 1976 Monarch Releasing Corp. re-issue. They added a 2:29 montage after the end credits reprising the best off-screen effects.

Unfortunately, many people believe IMDB to be 100% accurate. I can tell you from my experience with the early aspect ratios that there is a LOT of wrong information on that site.

Sadly, the trims are long gone. We searched and can find no trace of them.

I'm pleased to share my new article, "Restoring a Landmark 3-D Motion Picture."

It covers the production history of Arch Oboler's THE BUBBLE plus the documented facts on the effort to develop a widescreen, single-strip 3-D system in 1953.

Colonel Robert V. Bernier -- a forgotten 3-D pioneer -- is finally given his proper place in the history of stereoscopic cinema.

I also discuss the deplorable state of the 35mm negative and what we have done to restore it in HD for release on 3-D Blu-ray.

The article contains all-new research utilizing never-before-seen studio documents and primary source materials. I'm happy to report that many long-standing 3-D myths are now disproven.

I hope that you enjoy it!

How did Space Vision work? Did they print the two over/under images inside an Academy frame on the 35mm neg or did they use the whole aperture?

It was similar to Techniscope in that it used a standard 4-perf frame for the left/right images. Each image was 2-perfs in height so the overall clarity was somewhat compromised.

Here's an example:

Ah, so it was the whole ap albeit with the standard offset for the soundtrack. I could've sworn that the HTF review said something about Academy but it's not there now, maybe I read it somewhere else.

2-perf can still look nice, like with the remastered Leone movies, but given the limited resources at your disposal what you guys have achieved with The Bubble seems to be damned near miraculous.
