Paramount seems to have stopped releasing catalog on blu-ray with the exception of a handful of titles over the last few years. Even the Warner deal seems to have resulted in little product.
Some Best Pictures "Ordinary People" "The Greatest Show on Earth" especially missing |

Some of the holes in the Paramount Blu Ray catalog could conceivably go to Criterion, including HUD, MIRACLE OF MORGAN'S CREEK, PAPER MOON, and RAGTIME. Other big titles not on Blu Ray that seem unlikely to go to Criterion include ALFIE, THE FIRST WIVES CLUB, LADY SINGS THE BLUES, MOMMIE DEAREST, and A PLACE IN THE SUN. I could see a few scattered older movies, like SORRY WRONG NUMBER, going to Olive. The most inexplicable catalog title not on Blu Ray, however, is ROMAN HOLIDAY. Seriously what??
Paramount titles already on Criterion include ACE IN THE HOLE, DAYS OF HEAVEN, HAROLD AND MAUDE, IF..., NASHVILLE, ROSEMARY'S BABY, THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD, and (next month) DON'T LOOK NOW. I may have overlooked a few. |

Let's hope that someone one of these days solves the music rights issues plaguing the highly sought 70s and 80s titles: Looking For Mr. Goodbar, American Hot Wax, Little Darlings and one that many attribute to music woes but others to different issues, The Keep.

Prodigious lists to be sure. Lot's of good ones under the Paramount banner we'd all like to see get a blu-ray makeover. (For example, I'd love to see Witness get a premium upgrade to blu-ray. Can you imagine how beautiful that film would be on blu?). BUT.....don't get your hopes up too much. It's all a numbers game with these studios, especially Paramount. If the financial analysts and accountants say it's not worth it then they won't spend the money on the upgrade. It's that simple.

Yes, Paramount's disinterest is very disappointing.
![]() On the upside, it's great that Criterion has a shot at some of their titles. I don't see why Criterion wouldn't be interested in ALFIE, it's a great film and of some historical significance. I'm also hoping they go for THE TENANT, POPEYE, LOOKING FOR MR GOODBAR,THE GAMBLER and CATCH 22. They all seem like good fits. And I dream of a Criterion release for CHINATOWN, no doubt in vain. But this leaves many wanted titles still in limbo: Dragonslayer Funeral in Berlin Barefoot in the Park Play it Again, Sam etcetera etcetera... |

Unfortunately they stripped all the extras off the overseas releases. I've been waiting a while on this one, hoping they'll release it properly here, perhaps paired with Gallipoli, maybe even with a remastered Truman Show in a Weir boxset. They released SE DVDs of all three titles within a few months of each other, as I remember, about ten years ago.
