They had three copies when I arrived. Excellent! I'm enjoying actually going and getting something in-hand again. Will watch tonight if I can shake this splitting headache that's developed.

Only just noticed it's not dual format. I wonder if it was HD rights only or they felt it's already been well-served on DVD.

They've released it on DVD again too, but separately. Indeed that is a little odd as they usually do Dual Format...hope they're not thinking of ditching the Dual Format. Perhaps they were following Network's lead by releasing it on blu-ray and DVD separately for older British titles (as many people who buy this might be an older audience who don't have a blu-ray player).

I think its a contractual thing whether BFI titles are dual format or not. I guess if its allowable under their contract they will do, but if they would need to pay more in licencing fees to include both versions they don't.

Probably similar to Eureka with Masters of Cinema where most are dual format but occassional ones like the Universal titles are BD only.

True, but as I said they've released a separate DVD copy today today as well. Usually with rights it's that they're not allowed to release it again on that format entirely - hence why Eureka couldn't release Serpico or Harold and Maude on DVD or as Dual Format.

Now I think about it, they're likely releasing them separately to try and recoup as much as possible from the expenses of restoring it. I notice both the DVD and Blu-ray are the same price, whilst if they released it just on Dual Format it would just be one option (and DVD-only audiences might be put off by the premium of buying blu-ray, or not even notice there's a DVD disc included).

Interestingly, the copyright credit is The Cohen Film Collection so I'm guessing they paid for the restoration? I didn't realise there was a DVD release too. Your guess is as good as mine.

I don't know what the rules are in here about posting links to external reviews, but our review is up over at DVDActive.

Very nice review, as they've all been. It's great when a film like this gets the four star treatment.

Really nice release although the new yellow tint looks a bit odd after the orange one we've had for over a decade although apparently this new tint is the right one.

Nice to see a couple of photos in the gallery of Munro topless.
The first essay claims Munro is not topless in the film - that the scene was shot but not included . But it's in my version and we see her topless albeit only her reflection.

Best classic sci fi release for quite a while

I'm on Amazon Prime. I preordered quite a while ago and paid only about £12.50. It arrived on Monday (UK).

If you've chosen Super Saver they usually wait a few days before despatching
