They're not all terrible. Tormented, I Bury the Living and Squirm are all far better than their MST-skewed IMDB ratings would suggest. MST3k fanboys simply and robotically assign ratings of zero to any and all movies mocked on the show, regardless of the actual content of the film. One could easily make the argument that someone watching a heavily edited version of a film with three voices talking incessantly over the dialog cannot possibly judge the truncated, compromised final product fairly and fully. That said, I'd venture that 99% of films skewered on MST3k are of extremely poor quality, but one shouldn't just unthinkingly dismiss a movie solely by virtue of its inclusion on the program.

I get what he means... It's more like MST3K drives lots of people to those films' IMDB pages - to read about and then down vote them - that wouldn't ordinarily go to low budget films of their type otherwise. Like, if you had three films exactly equal to Zombie Nightmare, but only the one had been an MST3K episode, that one would have a lot more down votes than the others. And not just because MST3K would get it more traffic, but because it would get it traffic specifically from people who wouldn't ordinarily seek these films out, or even know how Zombie Nightmare would stack alongside the other films of its caliber. Whereas the other films' pages would have a much higher percentage of ratings from fans of low budget/ obscure/ cult films of their nature, and thus their scores would be more "fair" in a way.

But yeah, in this case Zombie Nightmare really is a pretty sucky picture, and quite deserving of it's "an MST3K movie" stigma if you ask me.

Oh yes, another good point. I hadn't thought of that but yes, absolutely.

I've never watched it either and would love to add it to my Bluray collection as well. Sounds like a fun flick!

To be honest, today it is the first time that I heard about this title... no good comments at all, I just saw a YouTube trailer but doesn't show much about the movie, IMDB 2.2 stars and is in their lower 100 list(#82), besides all of that and who knows what else, the price is $29.95 and nobody talks positive about this title.......I'll go for it

REGARDS

The key here, after just watching this on Prime, is that this movie is so bad, it's good. The acting is absolutely pathetic! Every single time, Frank the hairbear, spoke any dialog, I was cracking up..so cheese ball! The "zombie" behavior (Tony) was absolutely rediculous. Not sure what the bonus content consists of but if there's Directors Commentary Audio, I'd love to hear that..haha

I first watched this movie via VHS rental when I was about 12 so the DVD is in my collection mostly for nostalgic reasons because, yes, it's terrible. But something tells me if the Blu-ray edition hits an all-time low in price I might actually upgrade. At least there's some nice eye candy in it in the form of Tia Carrere

this is one of those movies you watch because it's so bad. i rented this back in the late 80s on VHS and the laughter was loud and frequent. of course back then i had a little "medicinal" help. not sure without that if i could sit through this again. as mentioned if found dirt cheap i'd buy it but sure as hell not for $30.

My brother got this recently after we watched the MST3K version again. It was our first time seeing it on its own, completely unedited. Storywise, it's actually got a decent little premise. I'd like to see what could be done with it with a bigger budget. The acting and direction is pretty lacking but I actually kind of enjoyed it. I've see far worse zombie movies.

Shawn Levy's finest hour...is not in Zombie Nightmare. It still cracks me up that you can see Adam West reading the script in one scene. (The film editor put a rehearsal scene in the movie.)

Germans love Shawn Levy.

(I just mentioned this to my German wife, and she confirmed it.)
