The PQ on this is absolutely amazing. Definitely a contender for one of the best looking blus of the year surely. Shame about the extra features though.

Shame it's not in 3D, it's the only way I'd ever sit through it again.

I have the French release and feel the same way. The stats on the UK release are even better.

Hey guys,

Just a heads up, I can see from the scan above that the not-unsubstantial non-English dialogue in the film has been subtitled with another PGS file on the UK (et al.) disc. This is also the same on the other Europe/Asia disc from Universal.

The North American BD has the proper theatrical burned-in English subtitles. The BDinfo scan is here:

I was wondering whether or not they left out subtitles for the majority of the non-English dialogue to give the viewer the same sense of cluelessness that Lucy is going through at the start, but then they kicked in half way through.

Big Deal, not in the slightest.
Some people on here need to relax with the "oh the UK got screwed again" crap.

I'm in Australia and buy many UK BD's & DVD's because they're sometimes superior to our local releases. You wouldn't believe some of the subpar discs they try and shove down our throats here... 1080i, no extras, wrong aspect ratios and general unavailability.

No, this is par for the course with Universal releases outside of the US, just like icon menus--and nothing to do with UK releases specifically. As you can see from the scan above, the UK disc is deisgned to be sold in many territories, and many of those territories do not want or need burned-in English subtitles on any part of the movie.

That's how I felt when watching it and I thought it worked well, intentional or otherwise. Whatever they were saying, the chances are Lucy was better off not understanding it.

...so the UK disc has slightly different text or is actually missing some subtitles when a foreign language is spoken?...

No subtitles are missing. Some scenes are intentionally left unsubbed. Like the scene with the interpreter, Korean is spoken but then translated soonafter.
