Obviously you haven't seen too much anime. There is stuff out there that is far more outlandish and imaginative. ^^

Don't get me wrong...I love anime....I can't wait for the Studio Ghibli Blu-Ray boxset to come out(just wishing folks).

Akira did take about three watches to comprehend the story...

I did enjoy Paprika...just, wasn't expecting on using my brain at 11:30 last night.

Haha. Yes, it's definitely not your typical story and it certainly requires a little brain power. Even if people did not enjoy this movie, I think they should be able to appreciate the work. ^^

Haha, those were about my same thoughts the first time I saw Paprika. Had to watch it a second time to piece everything together that didn't quite fit the first time, but it all works out great. The Blu of it finally came in the mail last night from Amazon and watched it again, definitely glad I picked it up.

A Studio Ghibli... That would be something I would pick up in a heartbeat here. Mononoke and Nausicaa are two of my favourite movies of all I've ever seen.

And on the note of Akira, you should give the manga a read. I think it's better than the movie, and it would probably help explain a lot of the story to ya better than movie did. Someone once told me that the movie was produced before the manga was finish, anyone know if there's any truth to that?

Anyone actually own both the French & US versions? I'd like confirmation that there's nothing different except the audio between the two as I already own the French version.

RustmonsterU,

If no one else will,.. I may netflix the US version.

But,.. anyway,.. I can confirm the France version is a great Blu Ray anyhow.

It's possible some bugs of the special features were fixed for the US release,.. I just watch the movie but I heard the special features or menus didn't work exactly right.

Default PAPRIKA wonderful and spectacular on dvdfile

link:

http://www.dvdfile.com/index.php?opt...=6383&Itemid=3

video:

"The quality of the image is spectacular. The AVC compressed 1080p transfer is beyond criticism. Every technical aspect of the visuals is exemplary. Small object detail in the form of the thin lines that define features within each hand-drawn character are clean and sharp. The dense CG backgrounds are defined with startling finely grained textures. Colors are superb; the dream world overflows with vivid reds, greens, blues, yellows . . . it’s a sensory delight. And yet as vivid as the colors are, there isn’t a hint of exaggeration or iridescence. The video dynamic range is terrific, from bright exteriors to dark shadowy allies. Either this is a direct digital transfer or the transfer print is immaculate. These are demo-quality images that deserve the highest score.

Audio:

The visuals are so stunning that I simply couldn’t bring myself to be distracted by subtitles. I’m pleased to report that the English track is outstanding

Can anyone confirm the coloring of the subtitles on the USA release? Hoping for white and not yellow. Thanks

Just saw the recent comparison at caps-a-holic. UK release got rid of the windowboxing... I may doubledip just for it.

So does the Australian Umbrella release use the UK Manga transfer or the same as the US Sony release?

lmao, a nearly two year bump for that? Why not just buy the disc yourself and find out? If like many others you assume "transfer" to mean encode (two separate things people need to learn the difference between), then no, going by the specs, it might not be the same, something that could've easily been noticed by two minutes of basic research.

Unless somebody else pipes in, then dont expect a definitive answer unless you buy it yourself to find out.

I mean is it the same windowboxed copy used on the Sony releases or is it like the Manga UK release.

Another good film by Mr. Satoshi Kon, and great music by Mr. Susumu Hirasawa. Just buy it now and expect that it will probably be rereleased sometime in the near future.

AXCN: PAPRIKA - SATOSHI KON FEST

Synopsis: Anime Expo Cinema Nights presents the last film ever made by visionary director Satoshi Kon with his mind-bending thriller PAPRIKA, which has been restored in 4K for the first ever. When a machine that allows therapists to enter their patient’s dreams is stolen, all hell breaks loose. Only a young female therapist, Paprika, can stop it.

It looks like there was a recent 4K restoration. It will be released in theaters
next year. I hope there is a new 4K/Blu-ray release soon. I think this is Satoshi Kon's most visually arresting film.
