The announcement of the year

Stay As You Are Blu-ray PRE-ORDER

Quote:
Independent U.S. distributors Cult Epics will release on Blu-ray Alberto Lattuada's Stay As You Are a.k.a. Così come sei (1978), starring Marcello Mastroianni, Nastassja Kinski, Francisco Rabal, and Barbara De Rossi. The release will be available for purchase on May 12.

Synopsis: Stay As You Are, directed by Alberto Lattuada, is an erotic drama about the impossible love between an older man and a young girl. It tells the controversial story of an architect, Roué Giulio Marengo (Marcello Mastroianni), who is unhappy in his marriage, and starts a romance with the young and beautiful girl Florentine (Nastassja Kinski.) When he finds out through his wife that she may be his daughter, he has to make a decision.

Stay As You Are was the first major film for Nastassja Kinski, one year before her breakthrough with Roman Polanski's Tess. Soundtrack by the great Ennio Morricone.

Hi jah

How about taking a look at Mauro Bolognini's catalog? It was completely ignored in the U.S. during the DVD era.

And just throwing this out there if there should be any interest: Salvatore Samperi's films are also off-limits for North Americans.

What are some of the best titles, in your opinion? I know nothing of their oeuvres.

Jah,

All of the Palme d'Or nominated films are great to have on Blu-ray -- if there are proper masters.

Gli innamorati/Wild Love is very good. The Lovemakers with Jean-Paul Belmondo and Claudia Cardinale is also a very big title. The Inheritance is also quite nice. Bell' Antonio is another winner.

I have posters for some of these films here:
https://www.blu-ray.com/community/ga...pro-bassoonist

Samperi:

The closest one thematically to Lattuada's film is Grazie zia, with Lisa Gastoni and Lou Castel (see Criterion's Fists in the Pocket). Malicious with Laura Antonelli is also very nice. I think that what was popular in the U.S. were his sexy comedies.

Edit:

I forgot to mention this Bolognini film. It is a minor entry in his oeuvre, but it was quite popular in Europe because of Laura Antonelli and Monica Guerritore. It is a very beautifully shot erotic period film. I have not seen a legit U.S. DVD release, and the Italian release isn't English-friendly. Also with a lovely soundtrack by Ennio Morricone.

It is probably best to see what masters are actually available, and if they are suitable for Blu-ray.

Does anyone know if In A Glass Cage (the Blu-Ray) is still in print? Very few online retailers have it in stock.

It doesn't look like Amazon will be restocking, so I'm thinking it might be OOP.

Isn't Angst one of the films that Barrel Entertainment had been slated to release during the heyday of DVD but never got to before going out of business? I've never seen it, but the title has stuck in my mind and I think that's why. Barrel was one of those companies from whom I'd blind buy everything they put out. Cult Epics isn't quite there yet, but they have really been doing some solid work.
