It's not 3D only, there's five discs. 2 for the EE 3D, 1 for EE 2D, and 2 are bonus discs.

It looks great. The first steelbook looks even more stupid now considering it only had the 3D movie but not the 2D one.

I agree but it didn't say 3d on it so I took the Theatrical special features disc for aUJ and the Regular EE disk and replaced them and made my own steel which will fit perfect with this one.

Custom made a 5 disc slimline version for the first EE, will be doing the same with this one. Already have a spare 4 disc slimline insert prepared, along with some very nice interior art. All I need now is someone to scan the spine of the slim line theatrical for me, or I purchase the Target EE purely for the spine.
Either way I WILL have a slimline 2D/3D EE of Smaug in 6 weeks. I'm also hoping that this will be glossy like the Theatrical of the first Hobbit.

Hate when people create threads and then do not take care to update the first post and just leave it be...

Why can't the US Target version have the front/rear artwork like this one, as opposed to being switched? Much perfer Smaug on the front!
Now does that one little hiccup lead my to spend more on the FS version??

Wow, wonder if that is actually true for whatever reason. Also still wondering what the final price will be on this item as I can't see it staying at this same price.

You guys think the price will drop some more? Amazon's price for the regular packaging is only $28.96.

As bad as I want this, I'm thinking I might wait until the Cineplex.com Boxing Day sale starts and hope that this drops to $19.99 like the first Hobbit did last year.

The DVD EE set was exactly the same as the individual releases, just in a box. If the same thing happens this time, you may regret your choice. Also back then, you could order the box for $3.
