There is a thread over at Gamefaqs where they made possible to have an external SATA drive on PS4, and they go up to 6TB formatted on PS4 (5.4Tb available), 3,4 and 5Tb being other options.

If you update the PS4 HD, does anyone know if the backup will save your game installs? I don't care so much for disc-based games, but would rather not have to use up bits of my data cap to re-download games.

I'm hit with data cap where I currently live. I know game save data can be backed up. I haven't seen any option to back up the actual game file on the PS4.

I saved my saved game data on a USB. Installed the 2 TB HD...whole process took about 20 min to install new HD and software. no issues.

Hmm, these games appear to require massive installations. Evil Within is 40 gigs!!!

I only buy specific big game titles but at this rate, i'll probably have filled up my 500 gigs by next year. Imagine how much Metal Gear and the next Uncharted is going to be!!! I thought 500 gigs would last me till at least 7 years.

At this time you can't. That's what Sony messed up. They didn't include the feature that the PS3 has on to the PS4 (being able to back up your entire HDD to a external one). Not only you have to reinstall and the games, you have DL all the DLC again.

That is going to make upgrading the HD annoying.

Tell me about it. That's going to be a lot of man hrs (for those that have their HDD completely full). I hope Sony enables that feature that the PS3 has on the PS4 (if even possible) so we can just back up our entire HDD on to a external one. That's why I'm not DL any PS+ games I don't care about (I'm down to 170GB). I don't get why people haven't be bringing this concern to Sony.

After installing my new HD... it was a pain in the @ss to reinstall the updates to the games and transfer the saved games . Wolfenstein was like 4.7 gb update patch, Call of Duty was over 2 gb. plus the other games I have.

Yeah, that was why I upgraded my hard drive not long after I got the PS4. Even back then though, when I didn't have nearly as much stuff to download, it still took a while to go through all of that. If I had to do it now, it would be a nightmare. I wonder if PC drive imaging software can be used to clone/restore a PS4 image?

I highly doubt it. If that was the case, one could use a SATA to USB adapter (still would need software to operate it).

BOOM! 2TB Hard Drive, B*tches!

FYI I used this external hard drive, and took it out of the encasing. Out of the casing it's 9.5mm

$99 on Amazon as opposed to $113.99 for the Samsung internal drive.

LOL, you could have saved yourself $15 and ordered the Seagate STBX2000401 2TB external drive for $85 on Amazon.

Why the **** am I just now hearing about this? I've looked all over online, and everyone was in agreement that there were TWO Hard Drives at 2TB that would fit in there. The Samsung one and the one I got.

Well if it makes you feel better, Amazon raised the price up to $95, but I'm assuming that is temporary since the price has been up and down between $85 and $95 for months now.

I put the 500GB from an older Ps3 in there, and now have an external 500GB to go with my external 1TB. :-)

Also after re-installing everything back on the ps4, even games I won't play (minus the demos) it took up just a shade under 500GB.

I won't upgrade again unless they come out with a 4GB one to use.
