Flus can be deadly but this is mostly a third world epidemic, as mean as that sounds. Also as cruel as it sounds, I may be a CPhT myself but I wouldn't risk my life to go to Africa to fight Ebola. Those people in my field who are combating the disease are far braver and nobler than I am.

Brady 2 Moss you're not going to like this news. Man with Ebola-like symptoms isolated outside Braintree hospital.
It's getting closer to us. I lived in Braintree for 20 years. I don't think it's time to panic...yet. ![]() http://www.wcvb.com/news/man-with-eb...pital/29078144 |

According to the news, a 2nd hospital employee who cared for Duncan has got Ebola.
My supervisor asked me yesterday morning if I would be willing to be trained in handling samples from potential Ebola patients that come through the ER. Yeah.....that ain't happening. There's no incentive for me and even if there was I would still opt out. Others with kids have already declined. |

The second nurse also traveled to another city, potentially infecting other people, when all Ebola nurses were supposed to be "under monitor". Meanwhile, the nurse union blasted the hospital for being a complete eff-up in dealing with Ebola. And meanwhile, Dow drops another 300 today (400+ at one point). Lovely day today.

I believe they should have never brought the first two back to the States for treatment because it was an open invitation for others to try to come here by any means necessary. Personally, I truly believe that Duncan knew he had it and I find it odd that his family hasn't shown symptoms yet, which makes me question whether or not they knew he had it as well and took extra precautions in advance to avoid exposure. I don't believe it was a coincidence that there were no known cases of Ebola in the US until after they brought the original two here for treatment and suddenly boom, this guy who just came from Africa has it, too.

Barring outsiders has LONG been dropped as a viable solution if you have been following the news. First, it would be exceedingly difficult to bar outsiders; if you ban flights, there will be other means to get to the US. All those illegal immigrants at our borders should give you a clue. Then, there are American soldiers in West Africa now and, not to mention, American aid workers, such as the two that were brought back for treatment. You obviously can't bar them from coming back to the US.

I don't know how feasible it is arrange charter planes for every aid worker over there. And not all aid workers get sick (in fact, I've read that very few get sick). Commercial planes are more accessible, so better to have screenings in Africa, and if they pass, let them board commercial flights like they are doing now.
Also, Duncan DID NOT COME DIRECT from Africa; he flew to Europe, then to the US. So are you going to ban flights to Europe too? If you are going to ban any flight from West Africa that could potentially come to the US, you are essentially banning flights coming OUT OF West Africa, which is another tall order. And we only had THREE CASES of Ebola in the US. Flight ban is not only unimplementable, but also NOT NEEDED. |

Through close contact with a symptomatic person's bodily fluids, such as blood, sweat, vomit, feces, urine, saliva or semen. Those fluids must have an entry point, like a cut or scrape or someone touching the nose, mouth or eyes with contaminated hands, or being splashed. That's why health care workers wear protective gloves and other equipment.
The World Health Organization says blood, feces and vomit are the most infectious fluids, while the virus is found in saliva mostly once patients are severely ill and the whole live virus has never been culled from sweat. If it's so hard to catch, what is up with all these USA health workers catching the virus? They say that the last one had the back of her neck exposed - did the infected cough onto a cut on her neck? It seems like if the body is just near someone with Ebola, you catch it. These health workers arent making accidents like Outbreak's Kevin Spacey or Renne Russo. Really good news that Frontier Airlines made 5 flights before shutting it down for disinfection. Which means 5 people sat in the same chair as that health worker. Not sure if a quick little vacuum before each new flight is gonna get rid of her Ebola fever saliva on or around her chair. |

Duncan passed screenings before he came to the US, and thus, didn't need to be quarantined according to protocol. Duncan's case may be a blessing in disguise for us. It makes us improve our system, which will only help save more lives. |
