I'll try to check my copy tonight when I get home to see if it's locked or not. Will let you know what I find.

I rented this on my Apple TV last week and enjoyed it, but I thought the second half wasn't as good as the first. I felt it lost some of the focus. Plus I wanted more of the mother.

Overall I liked it and glad I bought it, however I was a little disappointed by the fact that
[Show spoiler]there really was no supernatural element to it, only a man hiding in the walls. Kind of ruined it for me as I was in the mood for a good ghost story the night I watched it.
Still, it was a fun movie

Thank you, sir. I've actually ordered it, and I have a separate player for US discs, I just wondered as I still prefer region free.

Hi,

Please check out this post regarding the Australian, 1080i release:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...0&postcount=28

I emailed Rialto after seeing that our disc is 1080i, thinking it was inferior to the 1080p disc, and they got the people who actually encoded the film, to explain it to me.

Oh wow! So is the US release the incorrect 1080p24? And, perhaps more importantly, is the Australian release region free?

Sounds like it. They probably re-encoded it to 24fps 1080p for the US market... you guys have issues playing 1080i 25fps content don't you?

The AUS release is Region B Locked i'm afraid. I just tested it.

The US Region A version is a MPEG4 AVC 1080p 23.976fps, according to BDinfo.

I watched this on Netflix tonight, for those wanting to check it out without buying. I did like it, but maybe not enough to pick up right away unless I see a crazy good deal.

I agree that it seemed too long, and for me that was mostly in the middle. I thought the first and last 30 mins were great. The movie lacked focus and tried to send the audience on too many wild goose chases. But it all came together in the last half hour. Once the reveal kicked in I was all smiles again.

One thing that really bothered me
[Show spoiler]was allowing her to leave the house to search the neighbor's house for dentures. Once she was allowed to leave I didn't feel as claustrophobic as I had before. It was like a weight lifted from my shoulders "oh, so she can just leave then". The whole idea of being stuck inside the house with the boogeyman, and unable to leave, was what made it kinda scary. They should have stuck with that and never let her leave, not even to go to the police station near the end.

It looks like this is getting a wide re-release:

I believe the previous was an Amazon exclusive, and it appears to have been OOP

Yeah, I think so too. They're releasing a few other films previously released by XLrator, like American Mary, and Under the Bed.

One of the best horror films in years.

I own the NZ edition which is at the correct 25fps frame rate.

Any cosmetic differences between the new release and Amazon exclusive?

The back cover says there's deleted scenes and a commentary which are nowhere to be found on it. Also says it's Dolby Digital 5.1 but only sound I'm getting is stereo which has all the dialogue and effects coming from the left channel. This disc is a disaster. Don't bother with it. I emailed Amazon asking for a replacement but I doubt I'll get anywhere with them on that so I'll eventually ask for a refund. This was not what was not even close as to what was originally described.

Makes me glad I recently picked up the first version which does have everything listed on the back cover on the disc. Was a bit miffed when I got home from the used store and saw it was getting a wide re-issue in a few weeks from when I got it, esp. since I paid about what the new ones cost for a used one. But if this is the case, I am very happy as I noticed nothing wrong with the one I have, and did note some cool surround effects while watching. So are the new ones BD-R, or just f-ed up BD's?

Well this sucks! I just made the mistake of buying the new 11/21/17 version and it only has Dolby Digital 5.1 audio and appears to be a BD-R disc. I'll try to replace it with the Australian version since that should be just as good as the 1080p amazon exclusive earlier US version. The Australian version is 1080i but it still sounds like it should be the best version on my region free player.

Also, as the movie progresses, the English subs get more and more out of synch.

Edit 2-11-2022: today I asked for and received a refund, since nowhere on the AmazUK page does it state that it's a mere BD-R and the advertised special features on the back cover are MIA.
