Agreed, why limit yourself...90% of the best horror films are pre 2000 (really pre 90s) but if thats what youre looking for then check out Cabin Fever also Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil, it has comedy elements and is very entertaining.

Not everyone likes older movies, I get that exp. when your trying to watch with or get a SO into horror. I can sit around and watch horror movies from any decade but my wife would rather watch ones for the 80s up.

If your looking for something that is scary, good jumps and looks good go with The Descent; will not disappoint.

I don't know what kind of horror interests you but like some others have said, The Decent is pretty good. You could try Dracula 2000 (I like that one), The Grudge, Dawn of the Dead (2004 remake). Its hard for me to think of QUALITY horror films post 2000. Now, late '90s I would say Halloween H20, The Faculty, John Carpenter's Vampires. Just throwing a few more out there for ya.

His girlfriend might not.

I still haven't seen A Serbian Film but I own Martyrs - and my wife refuses to ever re-watch it.

If you like that, check out the Belgian horror film Left Bank which has a similar feel. It also combines the supernatural with social realism. It's more of a Rosemery's Baby than a vampire type of horror film, but it should be much better known. Like Let the Right One In its the rare horror film which transcends the genre and is a genuinely "quality" film.

I don't think his girlfriend would enjoy it. Probably not a wise choice for partnered viewing.

I agree with the people that have said most of the best horror was made pre-'00s, even pre-'90s, but I'm going to list the ones I've seen that I found to be good or decent. I dunno how "scary" I'd say some of these are, some like Cabin in the Woods and Drag Me to Hell are more horror/comedy really, but they're among the better ones anyway. I don't know if you're open to watching non-English language films, but in case you are I've made a separate list for those.

English language films:

- 28 Days Later (2002)
- The Blair Witch Project (from 1999, but I can't believe '99 or '00 makes a difference at all, it's a great, effective little flick that's well worth seeing)
- The Cabin in the Woods (2012)
- The Descent (2005)
- Drag Me to Hell (2009)
- Evil Dead (2013)
- Jeepers Creepers (2001)
- The Mist (2007)
- Prometheus (2012)
- Silent Hill (2006)

Non-English language films:

- The Curse/Noroi (2005, Japan)
- Dark Water (2002, Japan)
- Ju-on: The Curse (2000, Japan)
- Ju-on: The Curse 2 (2000, Japan)
- Ju-on: The Grudge (2002, Japan)
- Ju-on: The Grudge 2 (2003, Japan)
- Let the Right One In (2008, Sweden)
- Ring (1998, Japan)
- Ring 2 (1999, Japan)
- Ring 0: Birthday (2000, Japan)
- A Tale of Two Sisters (2003, South Korea)

What type of horror movies does she like (slasher, comedy-horror, supernatural, religious, etc)? I would recommend The Conjuring, Insidious, Insidious: Chapter 2, The Crazies (2010), Evil Dead (2013), Let Me In, Trick 'r Treat, and The Descent.

I saw someone mention High Tension, which is very good and scary. However, if your already worried about the movie being post 2000, then please be aware that this movie is in French with English subtitles.

I also saw The Evil Dead II mentioned. I finally watched the entire movie for the first time, as part of the October movie challenge. This may have been the worst movie that I have ever seen. The overacting and special effects were so over the top bad, that I was unsure if I should be laughing or not (and it was not scary by any stretch of the imagination). I actually felt uncomfortable watching it and couldn't wait for it to end. But at least I can say that I finally watched it. To put it in perspective, I like watching bad movies from time to time, and decided to watch "Rubber" (a movie about a killer tire), to get the bad taste of The Evil Dead II out of my system.

How did I forget?! Yes, for post-2000 horror comedy Shaun of the Dead is easily one of the best.

Seems like you didn't get that it was supposed to be over the top because it's a horror comedy.
