You referring to the one on Michael Bay's forums?

That's the one. I had been looking forward to it, too.

Well that's part of the problem we have here. No idea if it was a community-type fan debate [like the Michael Bay one was going to be] or if it was intended to be industry folks talking at each other.

HD-DVD has had a size advantage since launch! 30GB vs 25GB! AND before you argue with me try to find a 50GB BR movie anywhere. They don't exist and 50GB hd-dvd disc's should be here any minute.
I just compared 2001 a space odyssey on a hd-a3 with planet earth on the PS3 and can easily say HD-DVD rules the roust for picture quality and interface.
IMHO
My God... *shakes head
I am speechless. FASTM3DRIVER Wins.

Hmm. Gizmodo... yeah, I am sure that is high on the BDAs list of priorities. A website that most people have never heard of. Now, if it was youtube...

I've gotten the distinct impression it's BDA policy not to directly engage them in any kind of public forum

Default Blu-ray Backs Out of Gizmodo Debate

Anyone else see this? Why do you suppose they decided to cancel at the last minute?

Personally, I think the BDA knows people already know Blu-ray is superior. Also, it is hard to fight a battle when you are constrained by facts and the other side is not. It's like having an argument that's going nowhere. It's just a waste of energy and time.

Hhmmmmmmmm, a debate that would benefit who?

A website and a flagging HD-DVD format who will take every opportunity to spread FUD and confuse consumers.

Wicky, ironically this is exactly what the red ants were saying a month or so ago when the proposal for a similar debate was made by michaelbay.com moderator.

However, I have strong doubts BDA was even aware of that debate. Who knows who they sent their invitation to? I just have a feeling this was red ants' response to the aforementioned debate.

Speaking generally, instead of a debate I would probably want to see media publishing an FAQ where the typical red FUD talking points are methodically refuted in an easy to read and clear way.

Well, unlike the MB.com thing, Gizmodo is a well known red anthill

If Gizmodo really wanted to do something all he'd need to do would be read the specs and refute the FUD himself. No need for a "debate". Compare the two products side by side and tell us what we already know.

"Smell of Fear"

Weak crap from a weak writer for a weak web site.
