The first two screencaps are from the intro which looks a lot worse than the rest of the show - but actually comparing the Toei and Shout releases, the Shout transfer doesn't seem to look THAT much worse. Toei's has slightly more muted colours.

Shout!'s reds, particularly on the MegaZord Cockpit and elsewhere in the Series, is pushed towards Orange, rather than Red...

The subs are not what they could have been. Unlike the scream factory releases however, there are not affordable and legitimate alternatives for super sentai. I've gladly given shout my money for this release on day one. I'd rather give them my money for this and hope for improvements with future releases, than not give them money and hurt the chances of more super sentai. Shout has already confirmed more releases may come.
If one wants to solely stick with the fan subs, that's fine. I have access to both. This release over most really symbolizes the importance of supporting the art though imo. |

Someone elsewhere did some screenshots between the releases and it's actually a lot more similar to the Japanese editions than mentioned in here. So for fans holding out because of that, it's probably not a big deal different.

I bought the DVD but also have downloads and in my opinion the subtitles are much better on the downloads.
It also includes phonetic subtitles at the top of the screen on the start/end credits if you want to sing along (the opening theme is catchy as anything) but these do not appear on the DVD. Seems to me the fans did a much more passionate job about translating than Shout Factory did. Also the official box art is terrible, look at the terrible photoshopping. Anyone have an alternative artowkr I can print out? |

Lazy translations. Some things aren't translated early on, but then are towards the end. That's not even considering the slightly off colour grading. PLUS the lack of extras, which I was more than willing to supply to Brian, but he decided that he didn't want them. Shout!Factory at their finest! |
