Svet, can you advise whether or not this release is uncut? It was previously released in cut and uncut forms in the UK:

http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=9731

I ask because the BD runtime matches the PAL runtime of the cut DVD more than it does the uncut DVD.

The release is uncut.

That Fellini-esque sequence where the man arrives late to the party and then he and the woman undress in front of the guests is fully intact. (Then you have the long zooming with the faces of the guests and finally Julie's face).

Like I said in the review, the Blu-ray uses as a foundation a pre-existing master. I am 99.99% sure that the uncut version Optimum released on DVD is from the same Canal master.

A very stylish but very cynical -- for all the right reasons -- film that borrows quite a few things from Fellini's La Dolce Vita. (And I still think that Julie Christie is actually better in Petulia).

The technical presentation is fine. Big upgrade over the DVD. The transfer comes from a pre-existing master, but I'd much rather have what Canal have here -- if they aren't going to rescan the film -- than have them "repolish" it. (They have done some touch-up work).

Definitely worth picking up

Got it and watched it as well, pretty nice presentation short of a full "dirt and scratched" restoration.

Speaking of Petulia, any word of a release on that, in any region?

I don't have any information.

I only have the Warner DVD. Unfortunately, unlike the other early Christie films, which Canal controls on the other side of the pond, this one I think is still with Warner.

Default 122 blu-ray min versus 127 min dvd

I have the US dvd and now the import blu, but can't make out why the running times are different. There should be no speed-up difference on the blu-ray.
Where did the 5 minutes go?

If you want to find out how long a disc runs, you must play it and check. The case and other listing information are often incorrect. The BD runs 126m 37s.

Given that next year marks the 60th anniversary, we can probably expect a 4K release from SC or someone in the USA. I will admit, however, that despite being an older transfer, the Umbrella release is tempting.

I really hope this gets a 4K makeover; it deserves it.

Writer Frederic Raphael who wrote this has just done a new featurette for Studio Canal’s new bluray release Nothing But The Best / so this gives mild hope that they’ve also asked him to talk about Darling. I’d dearly hope that 2025 has a 4K release.

This year marks the film's 60th anniversary. Hopefully, StudioCanal will honor it by giving this excellent film the 4K release it deserves.
