The majority of Ghibli titles from Disney have been perfectly fine, lets not exaggerate things.

BestBuy.com now has a preorder listed for The Tale of Princess Kaguya at $29.99, although it is likely to drop and BestBuy.com orders are automatically adjusted if the price drops before shipping (but are not automatically adjusted between the ship date and the release date).

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/tale-of-...&skuId=1722114

It does list a release date of February 17, 2015, which may be likely, as Amazon recently notified those with preorders 2 days ago that no release date is available currently.

The BestBuy.com listing states it contains 3 discs; this is likely a error as its very unlikely that there would be a bonus BD or DVD disc.

Did anyone actually see the English dub in theaters anywhere? I was lucky enough to see this in theaters...but it was Japanese with subs...which I generally do prefer for watching anime at home...but I found it a bit distracting to have to read every single line of dialogue for this 3-hour-ish feature...

I watched the Japanese Blu-ray with the English dub and it was generally excellent. Masterpiece of a film as well. Best Ghibli film i've seen since Ponyo since I wasn't that fond of Arietty, Poppy Hill and The Wind Rises. The animation in this film is absolutely incredible - it really needs to be seen with the a dub of your preferred language unless you can read subs and be mesmorized by anmation equally. For some odd reason, my eyes/head hurt trying to read subs with animated films - maybe because my eyes are trying to focus both on the beautiful animation and reading. For live-action, I prefer original language and cant stand dubs, and reading subs on a visually-amazing live action film doesnt hurt my eyes/head.

I love all three of the ones you said you weren't fond of, but your sentiments on this one still make me even more anxious to get it. I want the Blu-ray so badly.

Apparently, this blu-ray set will be distributed by Universal. Is that really accurate? And if so, will Universal even provide alternate angles and subtitle/dubtitle options?

It's a Cinedigm release.

However, Universal Home Entertainment handles distribution for Cinedigm Home Entertainment, just like Anchor Bay Home Entertainment releases (and indirectly Weinstein Company Home Entertainment releases) are handled by Fox Home Entertainment.

Since Cinedigm, GKids, and Studio Ghibli control the content of the BD release and Cinedigm still sells the releases to retailers (Universal merely physically distributes it to retailers), I wouldn't worry about the storyboards (US releases by Disney or Cineidgm/GKids have never had multi angle for storyboards and have always been a separate video track) and subtitle/dubtitle options.

I thought this movie was far too long. They could have easily edited the movie down to 1.5 hrs.

I was referring to the English and Japanese credits in regards to alternate angles, but if what you said is true, the official press release should've regarded it as a Cinedigm release.

Excited to see this but why does everyone get the title wrong? The correct title is The Tale Of The Princess Kaguya

Yes, it should have alternating credits, as Poppy Hill had them.

Hmm, have we got a press release yet? I don't see a listing yet on Cinedigm's website yet either (there is a listing for The Kingdom of Dreams and Happiness' DVD release).

Update: Didn't see the news article on this website. Hmm, that's strange, since it really only is a Universal release in that Universal is handling the "backend" in terms of shipping and placing the title in stores. But the release shouldn't be authored by Universal (but rather Cinedigm/GKids).

Not overwhelmed with the list of extras so far, but super excited to see the film as it wasn't showing locally (non-mainstream animated films normally aren't ).

Compared to the Japanese release, it's about the same, as the press conference is the only significant extra on the JP BD other than the storyboards and trailers.

At least the NA release appears to add a new feature (Isao Takahata and His Tale of The Princess Kaguya). But if you really want a look into the production of this film, you have to pick up The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness (coming out on Region 1 DVD in January via Cinedigm)

Still waiting to see if GKids on Twitter can confirm it is a Universal release. But I guess it's possible GKids (and/or Studio Ghibli) has decided to have Universal distribute this release due to Universal's larger distribution network. Every other online store is now listing Universal as the distributor, although a listing has yet to appear on Universal's Home Entertainment website.

Actually, The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness delves very little in Kaguya. The majority of the film is dedicated to The Wind Rises.

Interesting to know. I admit I haven't watched the documentary yet (I do have the NA DVD preordered due to it containing much of the JP bonus features anyway).

Unfortunately Ghibli tends to hold most of the making of features as a separate feature (including one focusing on Kaguya). And many of these documentaries are released without English subs.

It's a great documentary but it's more focused on Miyazaki and Wind Rises. Kaguya and Takahata get some mention but nothing particularly revealing. I will love to see more documentaries like this one but like you said, most of them does not have English subs.

Well, I'm sure I will enjoy it as a Miyazaki fan (although Takahata's works are still amazing).

I think the new bonus feature (Isao Takahata and His Tale of The Princess Kaguya) will likely be either a English subbed excerpt of a Japanese TV special or documentary, or a new English language featurette about the film (with possibly a portion dedicated to the behind the microphone segment).

Update: It's possibly a documentary, as one with the same title was screened in Chicago recently. Although I wonder if it would really be 80 minutes long or just a selection.
