This is a touchy subject with me.
It really pisses me off when men empower women so much. It's entirely our faults when it happens too. I blame several factors for this. 1) A generation of men raised by women. It is fairly customary for in a broken home the child goes to live with his mother. When this happens it fairly obvious what happens. Mom is viewed as the figure of power and authority, woman are then seen as the "Boss". (First thing to fix, try and make your relationship work!!!) 2) Raised in a family where dad was hands off. Mom took lil Johnny to baseball practice, mom spent all the time with Johnny etc. The relationship with Dad isn't present. Common in military households or homes where the dad is away on business frequently or just totally consumed by his work. (Quick fix, men spend time with your sons) 3) When the Man isn't bringing much to the table and knows it. For example, a)She's the better looking of the two ("Why are you with him") b)She is the bread winner, makes more money etc. (Guy doesn't wanna screw this up-Lacks confidence in himself) c) The guy has made some mistakes in the past, and lost her, got her back and is now basically totally submissive to her every want/need out of fear of the loss again. (Men, be about something....don't be a loser then leach off someone, you degrade yourself) Unfortunately I have many Friends that are in these very situations, more than I am proud to admit. I of all my friends is IMO the one who does not fit these profiles and it irks me to no end to see them living their lives in a fashion where they are basically puppets to their puppet master. A relationship is a 50/50 thing, and I expect my sig other to not only contribute in areas such as work, chores etc but also be willing to accept and respect my decisions be it, purchases I make etc. I have told my GF several times when she is upset at a purchase I have made, or am preparing to make that I would never put her or our son in a financial predicament. I usually let her know if I am planning on making a purchase over $150 out of respect, and she asks me as well. I am the treasurer in our home, and I pay the bills etc. I think for man's sanity and womans, that the man in a relationship take charge of the funds. PS, how the F*&^ would any man go into a place and not be embaressed to tell the clerk my wife made me take it back. I would make up anything but that. That's like saying yeah my balls are in her purse, I am a total Milque Toast. Guys, take charge...stop being sprung ass whimps...take a Ward Cleaver approach on your relationships! ![]() Last edited by BTBuck1; 12-01-2007 at 07:38 PM. |

It's all in moderation. Some guys are too stupid to handle their own money but in general, if you are not a complete idiot about your finances then you should not let your woman push you around.
If you let a woman get you by the balls, you might get some but chances are they will sleep around behind your wussy back. Stand up for yourself. If you are the primary bread winner then you have a right to make some purchases as long as you are not shirking your financial responsibilities to your family. Women love a man that can say "no" to them. |

I think it's not so much the spending itself, as it's the big one-time amounts. They're unable to see that when you buy a TV it'll usually last at least 5 years, so the actual cost is very low. Even a $3600 TV at 3 years is 1200 a year, 100 a month - that's far less than she'll be spending on her things
![]() A different matter is that if you use a shared account, depending on income, you might need to "borrow" money from her share temporarily to be able to afford that $3600 TV. In that case it's a very good idea to discuss it first, as then you'll be using her money as well. |

The worst part of all this is the pure hypocrisy on some women's part. They question why you spend so much on certain items, yet they end up using it more then you do.
The point is that many women want these "things" as much as men do, but they're not willing to sacrifice any money on it. |

Just makes me glad that my GF understands my side of things. I couldn't deal with one that was "controlling" my money. Understandable if it's out of control, but a couple should respect each other's hobbies and interests, even if they are not interested themselves.

The only problem is poor choice of spouses. GF/BF/SO (or partner in the UK) have no say; there is no legal or moral commitment. Isn't that why you choose not to marry? To let someone who is not your spouse dictate your spending (assuming it's your money and your bills are paid) certainly is whipped.
Remember this; the first time I ever heard it was back in the early 90's on late night WJR radio in Detroit: The second wife is always the best one. I can't remember the host's name who said it, but it's true. |

Sometimes we just buy things out of wants when the money can be better spent on things we need. Most people cannot afford a lot of luxuries and we (as Men) get caught up in buying stuff we can do without or put off for a while. Spending cash or using credit when you really shouldn't is the same evil.
And ultimately, if we gave our wives more attention instead of spending an entire Sunday watching football, got off our lazy asses to help around the house and watch the kids so she had some time for herself, maybe - just maybe - she'd let you blow some cash on some electronics. Because we've then earned some points with her to do so. |

It's a JOKE. Jeez, everything does not have to be so serious.
Ok, so no one gets their fruit of the looms bent up, if you check out my signiture, I have a $3700.00 TV. I am more than happily married and it's all things in moderation. If you make $7.00 an hour and scrape by financially, you don't need a $1500 TV. |

Well, if a woman is forcing her man to return an HD-DVD player because it can't play Disney movies in high definition, I'd say more power to her!
