I don't know. I've seen plenty where they just try too hard with plot. (In a Rodney Dangerfield voice) What's with the plot?
But seriously, I think horror (especially from the 80s) is the most reliable for me. Other good genres I enjoy are old Hollywood musicals, Disney animated classics, and 80s Schwarzenegger films (very specific, but very fun). |

Fantasy
Superhero Disney Though, as others have said, every genre has some rotten apples. But these three I almost always find something to enjoy, even in the ones that aren't the greatest shakes. Hello The Mortal Instruments. |

I've never seen a post-apocalyptic (PA) or dystopian film or TV series that dissapointed me; Note that PA can be either set after a natural disaster, a sci-fi invasion, or a man-made war/event. Dystopian films are set in a futuristic society that has become very restrictive/totalitarian - and, sometimes dystopian films have PA elements:
Here are some examples: Films: The Book of Eli - very well-done & fully realized PA world Night of the Living Dead - the grand-daddy of all Zombie flicks/TV shows War of the Worlds - my preference is the 200X version 28 Days Later - a surprisingly good take on the zombie genre Brazil - excellent! The Hunger Games series - a great series, which combines dystopian & PA Snowpiercer - a minor classic, IMHO Planet of the Apes (1968) - obviously, a classic Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970) - very disturbing anti-war film... Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) - my favorite Apes film so far Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) - also great TV series: The Walking Dead (very obvious) Revolution - very good; ended too soon Day of the Triffids, UK/BBC TV mini-series only - I ignore the American film, since IMHO it's poorly done; this early '80's UK TV series was very true to the original novel... Jericho - excellent Jeremiach - also excellent Last edited by AnamorphicWidescreen; 01-21-2015 at 03:42 PM. |

Sci-fi for me. It can be mind-blowing and awe-inspiring when it's good. But even if it's bad, it's still entertaining and fun. I can tolerate way more sci-fi movies than most other genres.
Horror would be a close second; something about seeing people running around being chased and killed by monsters and killers and stuff rarely gets old, even at the lowest common demonenator. |

Westerns or Comic Book influenced movies might have the least amount of stinkers imho. Maybe it's because I don't expect much out of them, so I'm usually satisfied if they do more than a couple things right? I'm probably more demanding or look closer at Sci-Fi, Comedies/ROMCOM, Action, and Drama's.

would have to be science fiction... I have always had an abiding love for the genre. In fact, a good many of my favorite films are science fiction. Such as...
"2001: A Space Odyssey", "A Clockwork Orange", "Blade Runner", "Metropolis", "1984", "The Matrix", "Twelve Monkeys", "Time Crimes", "Abre Los Ojos", "Primer", "District 9", "Alien", "Aliens", "The Thing", "The Fly", "The Terminator", "Terminator 2: Judgement Day", "Planet of the Apes" (original), "Rise of the Planet of the Apes", "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes", "Ghost in the Shell", "Akira", "Serenity", "E.T.: The Extra-terrestrial", "Inception", "Rollerball" (original), "Donnie Darko", and "Westworld" to name a few. ![]() |
