Did you read the quote from Matthew Vaughan saying that the BBFC 15 is the uncut version? (Though that doesn't explain why the German version is longer than the BBFC.)

I laughed about that joke for 3 days.
It's a Roger Moore Bond movie with a dirty mind

Some people have no sense of humour nowadays. Too much political correctness, not enough of a sense of fun.

Bit of a weird one for me. I really enjoyed it, but also have no inkling to see it again anytime soon.

Shall see if that changes near the BD release.

It's not cut it was submitted as a 15. The R rated cut has more blood and this is viewable in the red band trailer in places

Yes, because trailers are never any different from the final film. And "it's not cut... the R rated cut has more blood", sounds like an oxymoron to me.

I have no trouble believing he's wrong and that the R rated version is different, but I don't see why he would say the 15 rated version is his preferred director's cut, if it isn't. And I'd want a better source than a trailer, even if the BBFC gave it an advice screening, just because the blood in the trailer isn't present in the UK theatrical version doesn't mean the BBFC told them to cut it. (I'm probably wrong, but my understanding was that blood alone wouldn't do it, it would have to be some more graphic injury detail or potentially implied sadism to push a film up to an 18.)

Yes, but wouldn't you just dodge the question rather than outright lying or making misleading statements...

From how it sounds and how the BBFC work, they probably approached them very early on with a work print and asked for where work needs to be done to get the age rating they need. So nothing has been cut per say, but the film was advised on the work needed to get the required rating. Essentially Vaughn is getting the film to the audience he wants, therefore not changing anything in the film that wouldn't have been changed anyway.

I know how an advice screening works, but it has been claimed that the US R-rated version is bloodier than the UK 15 version. So I'm confused as to why Vaughan would categorically say to a UK site that the UK theatrical is his director's cut.

You're acting like it being cut is an irrelevant matter of discussion it isn't.

And perhaps if people went to see films with higher ratings, studios wouldn't feel the need to cut them. Put up with substandard shit if you want, but that doesn't mean the rest of us should have to

To be fair, you would have to tell me what the last 18 rated film was, everything seems to get pre-cut nowadays that whatever manages to get past with an 18 wouldn't have broad appeal anyway.

Hold on, next mega blockbuster with an 18 is 50 Shades of Grey...I think we should all see it out of principle.
