Well, I finally got to watch the BD of this great film. Video is a slight but definite uptick from the DVD (sharper/darker/more detail); however, whoever was responsible for the audio should be shot. The DVD had what may have been the lowest volume encoding I've ever encountered in a real movie - and jacking up the volume didn’t punch up the sound as much as you’d think. Alas, the BD isn’t much different! The volume may be a bit louder - or that could just be the effect of lossless audio. And to put a bow on the audio hatchet job, the audio on Clapton’s Tears In Heaven music video is encoded in mono! I had to keep my DVD copy just for the stereo audio on Tears In Heaven (it’s also stereo on the soundtrack CD, one of the only soundtracks I own)!

So, bottom line: Jason Patric, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Max Perlich were great (as were many others), the PQ is better and the audio will give you a rough idea of what things sound like to your grandmother.

This really was a great movie despite the audio issues. If you're like me, you will be using subtitles.

The acting by the two lead characters was fantastic.

Agreed, even just a 4K remaster on a 1080 disc would be nice. The older transfer shows it's age for sure.

I can't believe I had no idea this movie was ever released on Blu-ray and I love it along with Clapton's "Tears In Heaven" and the music video is on the BD. Ordered. Some BD's for whatever reason you want just fly under the radar sometimes. I have the DVD though. Glad it was still in print. I likely confused it with the 2013 race car movie with Chris Hemsworth.

What are the odds of a 4K restoration and release since Kino lost the rights?

Just wanted to mention I watched this on Prime last week and found it to be a very good film that is overdue for both rediscovery and a new restoration. Feel like Vinegar Syndrome (or one of their partner labels) giving this a 4K restoration could definitely happen as they've been putting out lots of MGM titles as of late, and I'm sure they'd do right by it too.

I just saw that this was coming from Sandpiper

I assume it will be the same old scan Kino used, maybe a UK label can do a nice 4K restoration.

It can still get a new 4K release (Sandpiper only gets Blu rights).

Optimistic this will eventually show up in Cinématographe, feels like a film that fits that sub-label honestly,
