Any worse than Jeff Bridges "BAHston" accent was?? I'll take Tommy Lee Jones' "Har-ta-tee" Lucky Charms act over Bridges' dropping his Rs like they were on fire.

I saw this announcement and my first thought was "I'm sure it's the Jeff Bridges/Tommy Lee Jones movie, but wouldn't it be funny if it were the Corey Haim/Nicole Eggert skin flick from the mid 90s? Pretty sure I spilled more seed than a bird owner with Parkinson's when I watched that back in the day.

And thanks for the "seed" gag above, it's a good job I'd set my can of Diet Coke down before reading that because it would've been spat all over my computer. Brilliant ![]() |

![]() [Show spoiler] That movie is just creepy. It's clear the producers are feeding the cast tons of drugs just to see how far they'll go. There's not a top 10 "bad accent" list in history that Blown Away '94 hasn't appeared on. |

Tom Cruise didn't have a German accent at all, when he allegedly portrayed a German Army Officer in Valkyrie. Basically he was just being Tom Cruise dressed in a German Officer uniform. In regards to Tommy Lee Jones he's an American actor, not a real Irishman. So therefore his imitated accent were not expected to sound authentic, nor convincing. Blown Away is a Hollywood movie.

Wow, I didn't realize this movie had so much hate on it. I've been a fan since I first saw it on laserdisc. Bought the DVD years ago as I got tired of waiting on the blu. Granted I'm not a huge enough fan to upgrade based on the price but I think it's a pretty fun flick considering some of the bad stuff.

Foreign language representation in film has moved all over the place through the years, but it is very "old school" to represent them by speaking English in an exaggerated foreign accent. These days it seems that it's deemed best to either adopt no specific accent or have the actors speak the actual language (whether subtitled or not). Blown Away and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (among others) get ridiculed for actors that try to adopt the regional accents and fail horribly. Other than re-casting the roles, I don't know what those films could have done to alleviate the situation. And you know that those films weren't going to dump Tommy Lee Jones or Kevin Costner who were big box office draws at the time. I think Rob Reiner had the right answer. When Wallace Shawn couldn't do a convincing Italian accent, Reiner told him to not try it and that his "Sicilian" character just happened to have a Brooklyn accent. Probably because of copyright issues with the original recording. It's cheaper to use a cover version than to buy the copyrights to the original. Also it determines how much of the song is used rather if its a portion, or the entire length.
