Eagerly awaiting your take on the Aussie disc, Mr Scum.

I can't speak for the Japanese disc, but at least there are less Special Features crammed on to one disc with this release when compared to the U.S disc. So essentially with the additional audio tracks (this includes a lossless headphone x track, whereas it has been mentioned this is lossy on the U.S/UK disc) we are getting more.

I watched this last night. For those interested, like has been reported with the U.S/UK disc, there are banding issues on the local disc also. The bitrate didn't appear to be too great either. I suppose the question is now, despite this which disc fares up best. I'm definitely curious to see BDinfo scans and screen caps for comparison.

The Taiwan disc is a bitrate monster, AVC 36874 kbps, but seems to be missing lossless audio all together so will be very interesting to see some comparisons on all versions.

I thought as much re: the banding. And even though the Aussie movie disc doesn't have the documentary, it's still got half an hour of HD features and two additional lossless tracks eating into the disc space (on top of the fat Atmos track) so if the video encode tops 30 Mb/s average I'd be surprised. That's better than the 18 Mb/s UK/US bit rate for sure, but given how crappy the source is those extra bits can only do so much.

Here's the BDinfo scan from the AU version. Sorry to hear about the baked-in banding.

Holy shitballs, the average video bit rate is even less than the UK/US one.

I said I didn't think the bitrate was too good, I didn't quite think it would be that low though. During the rescue scene it was very low, I saw it go as low as 9.7mbps, and I wasn't watching it like a hawk either. With a video bitrate as low as that, it certainly is strange that Roadshow decided to include so many audio options, it seems like a lot of effort to go to with the soundtracks, with almost no emphasis on the video quality.

It is disappointing isn't it mate. Knowing that this release has the same issues as the US/UK release, I am eagerly awaiting other releases, to see if any of them improve upon this. If any do, I will definitely be importing whichever release that is.

Oh my goodness, the banding during the
[Show spoiler]rescue
scene is atrocious. How could those in charge of the transfer have it looking like that and think "good enough".

I have the UK steelbook on order. I will watch that scene very closely and report. As previously mentioned tho the UK and US has been screwed as well.

Seems like they stuffed this one up.

You watch when 4K is released. They will screw up all the 1080P transfers on purpose. To make 4K look a lot better. They did that for DVD when Blu was released. It will happen again.

The french and Japanese discs could still be different as the last movie was. My hope lies there for now since US/UK is screwed.
