Do you mean player? ever since the slim BDXL 67/100 have been able to play on PS devices. The drive should not be an issue. The issue, the way I see I is HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2

Way too soon for a new model, they'll only shoot themselves in the foot

More likely than a UHD drive is a PS4 without an optical drive and with a larger HDD, because that would be nothing more than a revenue generator for SCE. The next piece of hardware needs to have a larger HDD, no matter what, because that is a potential huge limiting factor in how much money Sony can make via the PS Store. I don't think the average user us up to replacing a HDD. And having to do so just raises your cost to something that is not attractive, anyway.

Before the outraged replies start, it's not necessary, I already know what some of you think. You like to hold things that you own in your hands and you like to resell things. Let's just make a gentlemen's bet instead. There are enough users in this forum who download most of their games and don't sell games to suggest there is a market for such a device. It's not for everyone. At the right price, it would increase the number of users who downloaded games. If it did not take me two hours to download 1GB, I would download all of my games just for the convenience of not having to shuffle disks.
Interesting prediction and point that there is more money in digital goods (no packaging, no shipment costs, no huge cut to the retailers). Hopefully it won't happen till the next generation or two and if it does, here's hoping they offer a version that allows for an external disc drive for the many of us who prefer physical discs and for the companies still offering them, but that's hopeful thinking, looking at the tide of CD music stores going the way of the dinosaur like Video Rental stores already have.

On the positive side, if they could reduce the cost of printing and shipping blu ray games or UD games on disc, then we might still see physical discs in 5 years time or less.

I hope we hear more about Lego Marvel Avengers. I loved playing the first Marvel game with my colleague's kids.

Microsoft and AMD just announced Windows 10 and the XB1 supports both decoding and encoding HEVC with the XB1 able to Game stream to Windows 10 PCs but not the other way. Most of the Codecs use GPU shaders and you can't play a game while using those same shaders for Video codecs except on the XB1 apparently.

From a XB1 preview beta tester, Microsoft @ E3 will announce Skype with HEVC, HEVC Game streaming to PCs and Apps like Netflix can use HEVC to reduce bandwidth.

Still nothing from Sony but I'd guess that HEVC support will be announced for Netflix and ooVoo. ooVoo supports free multi-video conferencing and that needs HEVC to reduce bandwidth. Playstation Vue needs HEVC also.

http://67.227.255.239/forum/showpost...&postcount=368 Kaveri may not encode HEVC without shaders, that's not known but it does decode using a Xtensa processor without using the GPU shaders. XB1 has 2 Xtensa IVP stream processors and several Xtensa HiFi stream processors.

As I read elsewhere, at 540p?

But seriously, I wonder if Sony will even bother with this since they have been adamant PS4 is first and foremost games console.

They may not announce at E3 but ooVoo was announced coming to the PS4 late 2nd Quarter 2015 and Sony needs HEVC for Playstation Vue. Skype as ooVoo needs HEVC for multi video conferencing and I'm assuming Sony also has support for HEVC encoding.

WebMAF support is in the PS4 and PS3 as witnessed by the Plex app and Cell can do HEVC encode and decode at the same time given the performance needs I've read.

Sucks it looks like we may not get any Uncharted 4 gameplay or a look at the Nathan Drake collection.

edit: Never mind, thought the conference was over.
