Great movie
The trailers and promotion put me off when it first came out, saw it on TV many years later and thought it was much much better than A.I.

I personally was hugely disappointed in this movie. It deviated from the short story tremendously. (Maybe it is closer to the novel).

One of the many things that impressed me about the LOTR movies is that Samwise's last words in the movie are the same as the book.

Andrew's last two words are very powerful, they really blew it by not using them in the movie.

I would love to see a faithful Asimov adaptation but so far all I have been is disappointed.

In fairness I will say this is a vastly better movie than the mind boggling horrific version of "Nightfall" in the 1980's.

A touching film. A tad mawkish but nothing that harms the overall effect.

I've never seen any other movie involving a robot acting human to be done as well as this movie does. It's a true landmark that Robin Williams has left us.

It's even better than I, Robot IMO.
I, Robot has nothing to do with the source material however, literally NOTHING while the Bicentennial Man at least seem to have quite a few basic elements of the original from the few things I've seen.

In general Asimov did a lot of things with the robots that were really moving without going into the Frankenstein monster bullshit of the Will Smith movie.

A.I is a much better film (also has Robin Williams), but BM is still one of his most underrated along with Toys.

Even Automata with Antonio Banderas has more to do with I, Robot than Will Smith's I, Robot.

It's just an opinion, man. For me, two movies with a robot acting similar to that of a Human makes the movies similar to me. I guess that was missed. I still enjoy Bicentennial Man much more than I, Robot, so deal with that.

Not sure about anyone else, but this film makes me bawl like a little kid too. It's just so sad for Williams' character.

EDIT.

I will add the one film critics loved of Williams, was WHAT DREAMS MAY COME, which audiences largely ignored. You all simply must see it. It's my #1 tearjerker of all time. Plus, it's just stunning to look at.
One of his more underappreciated efforts is as Rainbow Randolph in Death to Smoochy.

This one scene alone...if it doesn't motivate you to watch the whole thing, then you're a critic of the wrong sort.

I really love the movie. Not just for it's sci-fi elements, but also how it handles humanity, life and death. It's very touching and quite beautiful, IMO.

This rates high along with Good Morning, Vietnam and Good Will Hunting as Robin's best.

I absolutely love Bicentennial Man. One of my favourite Robin Williams movies.

I have the DVD but would really like a bluray release.

As for why it hasn't done very well, I believe, like others, it was due to the marketing strategy for the movie.

Fingers crossed we get a bluray release soon!

Actually, What Dreams May Come was not loved by critics at all, it was called boring, over-sentimental and ridiculous. In the years between the release and now it got a more positive vibe, but still ... it's not well received.

That said, I quite enjoyed it, despite the flaws.

Never been a fan of this movie. Too much tragedy and too ridiculous.

How?
I mostly concur that "I, Robot" is a very by-the-numbers movie which is also an extremely shitty adaptation of the source material.

I don't judge movies based on numbers, but by their content. That's what makes regular people different from Critics. Also whatever you think about the movie is fine. I have my opinion, you have yours.

Perhaps I'm a simple man, but I love both I Robot and Bicentennial Man.

"By-the-numbers" is a figure of speech, it refers to something that is made without real creativity that only recycles pre-made cliches and tropes in a super-safe way.

Example: "Call of Duty 26 is a very by-the-numbers military first person shooter"

Never saw it because I thought the trailer made it look cheesy...maybe I'll have to check it out after some of the recommendations on here.
