When did New Line Cinema say they were backing Blu-ray? I can't find this anywhere.

They're owned by Warner which is supporting both formats.

While this is true, from what I understand from one of the "industry insiders" is that New Line will determine, independently of WB, what format(s) they release titles on, so there are no guarantees either way.

Don't jinx it then. If that's true then I hope New Line will do just as they did when they first released on DVD, let Warner make the distribution decisions.

I found a link that lists who owns what. Time Warner owns New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. I don't think Warner Bros. owns New Line Cinema. Warner Bros. handles New Line Cinema's distribution into Germany.

I think they are scheduled to release HD-DVD movies in early '07and Blu-ray slightly after that point (depending on sales).

Hmm....so Universal Pictures prefers to stick it with HD-DVD, ey?

Yet their music business prefers to stay on Blu-ray.

There is disunity within the organization :P

Isn't Warner Bros, Time Warner's movie studio which owns New Line? I'm not sure I agree with that site. In essence Time Warner owns both Warner Bros and New Line by default but it's always been my understanding that New Line started as an independent and Warner purchased them. Whether it's Time Warner or Warner Bros that purchased them that doesn't really change their distribution plans of New Line movies does it?

Univeral Studios is a separate entity than Universal Music Group.

New Line was purchased by warner then time and warner merged then bought aol since then aol has been dropped and its simply time warner so my guess is that new line will be releasing on both formats. I can call a very high up in New Line if you guys really want a definitive answer.

Thumbs down hd-dvd

Just go to show hd-dvd is running scared with scare tactics
and the Universal guy who backs Microsoft should be fired.

Blu-ray has more capacity for superior quality videos and so what if few blu-ray movies are in mpeg-2 the majority coming out are vc-1 and mpeg-4

He's just worried that he's made the wrong decision and that it could cost him his job is all. Because i've gotta imagine universal is somewhat fincially inolved with the sucess of HD DVD now and if that format is the loser then he could face some serious questions from shareholders/boardmembers.

Let's not get carried away.

What do you expect from a marketing person at Universal? Nobody should be surprised or insulted by his remarks. Why should he be fired?

I'm going off of Blu-ray Disc's official website, www.blu-raydisc.com, that they do support New Line Cinema. This can be found here...
