Do you get the option to watch in 2D or 3D? I did for "Jerusalem" but not with "Unseen World." They are both new from National Geographic. Also I get a screen stating what's needed to watch the movie in 3D (3D BD player, glasses and 3D TV) but after that the movie is clearly in 2D. When I turn the glasses on, my TV (Samsung JS9500) acknowledges that I'm watching in 3D even though there is none. If I turn the glasses off the picture gets brighter as it should but turning them back on does nothing for getting a 3D picture.

Amazon is sending out a replacement and I'm sending back the disc.
I don't like the way they authored this blu-ray. Absolutely no choice to watch in 3D or 2D. If I do not have my TV turned on first (before blu-ray player) it just goes right to 2D with no other option than to eject and reload. Pretty lame.

FYI:

3D Review by Michael Reuben is up:

Mysteries of the Unseen World

"Photographraphed in IMAX by documentary specialist Sean MacLeod Phillips (Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon)"

Quote:
In 3D, the live-action photography acquires an additional sense of spaciousness from the additional depth, and certain shots have obviously been staged to take advantage of the extra dimension: an early scene where a young girl aims a garden hose in the camera's direction; a time-lapse of roses effectively popping out of their pot (and the frame); a coiled snake striking, in slow motion, directly at the viewer; a majestic owl swooping, again in slow motion, down toward the camera. Graphics and synthesized images, such as those from an electron microscope, provide a less startling impact, but the additional depth often helps clarify the many layers of detail, especially in images that are, by their very nature, foreign to anyone's daily experience. Both versions provide a satisfying viewing experience, with a slight edge to the 3D. Mysteries was made for a giant IMAX screen, but it has translated well to the home theater.

Thanks for that review. He doesn't sound like a big 3D fan but thankfully gave a slight edge to the 3D version over the 2D.

Trailer:

I wonder if they show a water bear in this documentary in 3D. Pretty sure the technical name is Tarigrade, I'll have to look it up again.

Yes.... I think they show a top down transparent view of it walking up the screen.

Mites , head lice , insect parts , gecko feet , snails tongue , spider silk , dust & the nano world.

This is just a small part of a 39 minute 3D demo worthy full screen documentary that has major educational value added to it.

This is a must watch doc for any 3D fan.

Update: I received a replacement and it played in 3D. I just scanned a few scenes so I'll hopefully watch it and a lot of other movies over the holiday.
