Angry Why can't I buy it?

I had the oppurtunity to watch Star Wars Episode IV in high def last night at a friends house(cable). Looked great! Why can I not buy it? I mean I see what I want, and am willing to pay for it why then can I not go to the store, purchase it and be happy. Seems ludicrous to me that it be available yet I can't own it. Why if they broadcast it can I not own it on a media of my choosing. Just plain stupid. It seems all the technical elements are there yet politics of the matter limit my enjoyment. Its not like Lucas and 20th Century would loose money. Hopefully a day not too far into the future people will have the ability to purchase any content they want and keep it to a medium of their choosing. I know some elements are already in place. I don't know the way his cable works(can he keep the downloaded movie indefinately?)since I don't have cable but love movies.

Just my rant for the day.
