It's 2015 and with the re-release, does this mean they will finally show a trailer for...

...??

Yikes, I never even considered this.

I saw the reissue of Raiders back in 2012, and thought it looked and sounded AWESOME, but I'm leery of getting there for Jaws (which I've never seen in a theater) and getting some washed out old DVD print with the crappy 5.1 audio. I actually have a week's vacation fortuitously planned to start on the 21st, so I'll probably wait to hear feedback from early screenings before I risk my money on it.

I saw it three times in the summer of 75. I can assure you that it was better in 75 than it is today. But still go see it on the big screen if you can.

I'm almost positive that the last time I saw Jaws in theaters, it was a DCP with the 5.1 track. They never show the mono track anymore unless you get a 35mm print. And, even then, I've seen 5.1 with it.

Yeah, the last two times I saw it in the theater in 35mm it had the 5.1 mix.

The 5.1 mix done for the Blu-ray is fantastic! I wouldn't trade it for anything, not even for the original mono. But of course it's nice to have the mono on the disc too.

This movie was a 4K restoration from the OCN. The DCP shown today should be miles better than any 35mm print anyone saw in 1975.

I'm glad it's there too, because that's all I've ever watched the film with.

Visually, yes. But the new sound effects completely take me out of it.

The Classic Cinema by me in Illinois plays this ever summer. It is one of my favorite movies of all-time, so it never gets old.

Just adding to the chorus that Fathom Events suck.

I emailed Fathom Events about the presentation on "Jaws" and this is what they wrote:

"Thank you for contacting Fathom Events! Fathom Events is running the event through DCP and it will be widescreen (16:9 vs 4:3).

"We'll see you in the theatre!"

Why spend the money to see Jaws in the theater, (unless Jaws is going to be presented in IMAX), when you already have the blu-ray movie at home, and can watch it anytime you want. That's the purpose of buying a movie!

I love my 55" HDTV and all, but you can't beat the theatrical experience. Especially for a film beloved as this one, and certainly if you've never seen it on the big screen before.

Well that defeats the purpose of having a home theater, if you're still going to see movies (that you already own on blu-ray) in a commercial theater. I have a very nice home theater too, but I wouldn't waste my money to go to the theater, (pay exorbitant prices for junk food) and see the same movie(s) that I already have at home. That doesn't make any sense... If that's the case, then why even invest in a home theater, and buy blu-ray movies!

Sometimes certain movies make you wanna see em in the theater just for the experience, whether it's sensible or not. I have Goldfinger on VHS, (had) DVD, and Blu-ray, and I still went to see it at my local theater when I was in college a few years ago because it's my favorite movie. It's playing again at one near my house in a few weeks as part of the same series as Jaws, and I might go see it again

Well, nobody forces you to pay the money for the food.

Yeah, I have Jaws on Blu-ray, but it's on a movie screen. I've got Raiders of the Lost Ark on Blu-ray, too, but if somebody said to me "Hey, Raiders is having a special one-night screening at the theater. Want to go?" I'd be like "Hell yeah!" The opportunity to watch one of my all-time favorite movies in a theater on "the big screen" (especially one I never saw theatrically and have only ever seen on a television screen) would be far too good to pass up. I don't consider it a waste of money if it's something I want to do.

Watching it on a huge screen (by comparison)with a crowd of fans makes the home theatre a bit unsociable

many people have commented concerning quality on the Fathom Events page for this... and Fathom has responded!

Quote:
Fathom Events are broadcast either via Fathom’s satellite network or via hard drive, but never DVD. Our Jaws event will include the complete restoration of the feature and will be distributed to the theaters via digital hard drive. While all Fathom theater location meet our quality standards, due to the expansive Fathom network the exact projection can vary from location to location.

Your first mistake is buying movie theater food.
