There's a couple of movies I've been thinking about getting in 3D, but I'm worried about cost vs. value.
John Carter: This is a biggie. I really want to see and own this movie, but the 3D version typically runs in the mid $20's used on EBay. Even worse, I just found a new 2-disc BD with slip (!) at my Wal-Mart. I bought it for $14.97 until I decide what to do. I've heard the 3D version isn't that good. Nightmare before Christmas: Another biggie. Disney put a lot of time in effort into this conversion and even did some digital touchups on the film. However, the 3D version is fairly expensive on EBay running in the high $30's and more. Reviews indicate the 3D and Disney's efforts here don't really payoff in a big way. My copy is the Skellington Head set on DVD, but the cost to upgrade here seems very steep. Jack the Giant Slayer: Another biggie. My copy is a 2-disc BD with no slip from Black Friday. I got it for about $5. I've heard in this case the 3D is really nice and adds a lot to the movie. Funny how one version of a movie can be dirt cheap, while another version of the same movie can be so expensive. The 3D version is about $30 or more on EBay, most don't even have slips. Tron Legacy: Almost forgot this one. My copy is a mint 2-disc BD with slip from release. Used 3D version typically runs in the mid $20's on EBay. As you guys may know, the 3D while good is only 'on' during some of the Net sequences. Not sure how I feel about rebuying the movie to watch something that's mostly in 2D (?) while wearing 3D glasses. If anyone has any thoughts on the relative value of these 3D releases, please do share....Thanks. Last edited by Frank@Chicago; 06-02-2015 at 07:06 PM. |
