Since there won't be an interview with Daniel Day-Lewis in the Bluray, here it is!

Goldcrest owns A Room With a View, not Merchant Ivory. Hence its absence from the old Merchant Ivory collection of dvds.

So, no Criterion of Maurice! They didn't make up with Ivory.

At this point, if ANYONE released it on Blu-Ray, I'd buy it. Criterion would do the best job hands down, but I wouldn't mind if someone else did it.

I'm half-thinking of buying the Maurice DVD, but it's going for some pretty steep prices, even for a used copy.

Anyway, I watched A Room With a View a couple days ago on TV and really enjoyed it. It wasn't an HD broadcast, though, so I'm sure the new 4K restoration will look grand on this release.

And, I noticed that we'll be getting an interview with Ivory on this release; unless the interview was conducted a while ago, Criterion and Ivory can't be on too bad of terms.

I hear you. I bought a cheap ex-library copy and had to pack it into a 2-DVD case and if there was a booklet, wasn't there by the time I got it. There were some marker markings on the discs, and a little scuffing on the artwork, but the discs work, so I'm good.

Until a nice HD disc comes out...

I have no idea; it seems to be up for me. They haven't cancelled my pre-order yet and it even looks like the price was finally lowered to $27.99.

Screenshots!!!!

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film5/blu-r...ew_blu-ray.htm

i wonder if with this aspect ratio we gain information on the top and bottom, or lose at the sides, comparing to previous releases.

I hope we can see exact screenshot comparisons soon.

Going from the previous 1:78:1 ratio to the original 1:66:1, logically a small amount of info is lost on the sides. A comparison of the screenshots to my HD-DVD (!) confirms this. It's nothing major, and the restoration seems to significantly improve the color timing, so it's a worthy upgrade.

I was wondering if anyone got any shipping notification from amazon.
I know it's out in 2 days, but sometimes I think they ship earlier.

Haven't gotten anything yet. For my location, I usually get Tuesday releases shipped on Monday morning.

Today's the day! To celebrate, here's an essay I wrote on the parallels between this film/novel and EPCOT in Walt Disney World: https://popculturepundit.wordpress.c...ntral-florida/.

Interesting. Maybe a bit of a stretch, but I did learn about Judi Dench narrating Spaceship Earth. The last time I was there was in 1988 when it was still Walter Cronkite.

Did Judi serve as the connecting tissue for you to make the connections?

I would say that EPCOT has less skinny-dipping too. (At least that I remember.)

Not even, I visited WDW (for my third time) last fall and EPCOT felt so Room with a View to me, and I've been brewing on why pretty much since then!

Blu-ray video quality is terrific - the 2-disc BBC DVD had such a weird look to it, which I'd gradually become accustomed to, plus I hadn't seen this movie any other way. Watching it on Blu really feels like a whole new experience though!

Still working through the special features. Helena Bonham-Carter is hilarious.
