Same here! I was really surprised and it made me feel terrific about the future of 3d! I think the only 3d trailer I missed was Shaun (not sure if I got that trailer since when I arrived late in the theater it was near the end of the pan trailer which had jawdropping 3d and has me majorly excited to see the movie now. Looks like strong 3d constantly and the visuals are so fill of color and life. It looks stunning!) Hotel Transylvania 2 also surprised me with 3d that looked alot better than the first. Good dinosaur looked like some of Pixar's strongest 3d yet with a the opening shot in that 3d trailer literally made me say "wow" out loud lol. Peanuts also looked like it would be a fun use of 3d.

Ironically, I've linked to its Amazon listing, instead of Best Buy's. It's a more credible source.

It's a Pilates video with a woman wearing no pants on the cover. Yeah, random observation. But my wife felt that I should share that with you fine folks. Heh
I think that's just a leotard with high-cut sides. Notice the slight curve at the bottom; that doesn't look like going commando to me.

Ha. You're probably right. Pretty suggestive angle for a Pilates video cover, though. Heh

Just saw Inside Out tonight in 2D, since most people weren't impressed with the 3D. Looking forward to seeing it in 3D on Blu-ray, though. That Lava short is supposed to look good in 3D. Both films were great, btw.

Perhaps the amount of 3D needed is inversely proportional to the depth of the story.

It's on the listing here on Blu-ray.com. It says "4 discs: 3 blu-ray, 1 DVD" for the Ultimate Collector's Edition of the movie.

I'm guessing this listing will just disappear like every other recent Disney 3D Blu-ray available for pre-order. Disney seems to have abandoned the format in the US. I still haven't purchased Big Hero 6 on Blu-ray (which I loved) due to the lack of a 3D release.

Preordered. I definitely want to show Disney support for this. Marvel movies are still released in 3D. I don't believe there has ever been a Pixar movie that had a 3D theatrical release but not a 3D blu-ray release. So maybe, like Marvel, they'll release Pixar movies in 3D blu-ray. Whatever the reasoning, I definitely want to support it!

The only Disney title whose 3D preorders got cancelled was Frozen. There were no 3D preorders available in North America at any point in time from the major online retailers for Maleficent and Big Hero 6. Their preorders were 2D only from the start.

Those were not Pixar titles (Frozen, Maleficent, Big Hero 6).

Odd that the 3D Inside Out Blu-ray 3D+Blu-ray+DVD+Digital Copy is $35.99, cheaper than the 2D Inside Out Blu-ray+DVD+Digital Copy @ $39.99.

Vaporware type of pricing?

It's Amazon. The price will probably drop very soon.

Also, Target.com is offering a $5 gift card if you preorder Inside Out (both the 2D and 3D editions). Target.com now has a preorder price guarantee, with 5% back and free shipping for RedCard holders (shipping is also free for orders $25 or more, which the 3D edition would qualify for).

Seems that all Pixar and Marvel Cinematic Universe movies have the 3D option, while "Disney Animated Classics" do not (at least, in North America).

If you read the Target ad, you get only the 3D version and a DVD version. No 2D unless it is on the 3D disk. Food for thought.

I wouldn't take it too seriously, as it doesn't mention it includes a digital copy (which it surely will). It's very unlikely that a 3D BD release wouldn't contain the 2D disc and its bonus features. It's just a preliminary listing. No details have been finalized and released to the public yet.

I saw Inside Out in 3D on Friday night. I can confirm what other reviewers have said: The 3D is mediocre at best. There is some depth to the picture, but I don't recall any "pop-out" effects or scenes that were enhanced by 3D. There is even one scene where
[Show spoiler]the characters morph into one-dimensional shapes against a white background
. Obviously, 3D will be of no use in such a scene. The "Lava" short before the movie had much better depth and overall 3D effect. Regardless, I've pre-ordered the 3D Blu-ray to show my support for the format. Here's to hoping the movie looks better on my 3D TV.

However, the movie itself is easily one of Pixar's best. If you liked Toy Story 3 or have any semblance of a heart, you'll be hard-pressed to not shed at least a few tears at the end of Inside Out. A reviewer for Variety said it best: this movie will "forever change the way people think about the way people think."

since the last past two Disney's blu's feature Dolby TrueHD - maybe the bluray will be the first Pixar/Disney release with the Dolby Atmos mix included (fingers crossed).

My wife and I really enjoyed Inside Out in 3D. It was an endearing movie. Really hope the info is right regarding a 3D release in the US. I may pre-order too.

And yet this is how the Shrek movies, Monsters vs Aliens etc were initially released in America: 1 3D blu ray + 1 DVD but no 2D blu ray...

I understand, but it's unlikely to be repeated again. And Dreamworks Animation doesn't release their 3D movies like that anymore.

It's a preliminary listing. We know it will contain a digital copy regardless of the listing's current details, and it's very likely to have the 2D BD.

Update: Walmart.com now has its preorder listing available as 3D Blu-ray+Blu-ray+DVD+Digital HD.

If the studios know they're going to make a 3D version, why not make it pop a little more? It seems that many of these 3D films have room for more depth and/or pop-out effects without being gimmicky. I was considering seeing this in 3D tonight, but because of reviews like this I'll just see it in 2D. If I'm basically seeing a flat image either way, I might as well see a brighter picture, not have to wear the glasses, and save a little money.
