So did I , and I should receive my copies next week. Will let you know if by some off chance Harlock is included. They charged me for it, and gave no clarification that it was shipping separately. So here's hoping...

I'm not expecting to get Harlock in my package. If it was shipping now TT would have said so.

Yeah, I ordered Vampires along with Harlock and only Vampires showed up(along with the above note) a few days ago.
Glad SAE did a good job handling this, although I wouldn't have minded waiting for both to ship when Harlock was ready.

Yup, got my shipping notice yesterday, so they're shipping out a little early. Going out First Class, so I should get it by Monday.

I bought that set last year, at a much lower price, and love it. Didn't really care about the lack of subs. Just stuck my TT disc in there, which works for me!

That's why I said he's tormenting us - because most of us can't enjoy it too very well in French...

I'm just happy to have purchased the Hong Kong Limited Edition set, as it came with a full-sized theatrical movie poster that I now have framed and hanging prominently on my projection theater room wall.

Weird how this hasn't sold out, but I did get David Matranga to sign my copy at GalaxyCon Richmond back in Feb. He seemed to appreciate the character, but couldn't remember if he had also worked on the motion capture for it (he only remembered doing it for the Appleseed sequels).

HARLOCK 3D now SOLD OUT at TT.com so half way there.
I get the feeling this is fairly low at SAE, but they really don't let you know specific amts. It appears that exta 500 copies might be keeping it alive

I watched this last weekend and for the most part quite enjoyed it.

Since this is apparently a conversion and not native rendered 3D, I'm interested in picking up a 2D copy. Any recommendations for the best release to seek out? My criteria for "best" is usually encode and bitrate. I was trying to sort through the releases listed in the site's database but I wasn't getting very far.

This was a blind buy as I wasn't previously familiar with Harlock. Is Captain Harlock: Arcadia of My Youth worth checking out?

And lastly, any recommendations for similar CGI films on Blu-ray? I enjoyed Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and, to a lesser degree, Advent Children.

Was disappointed with the Twilight Time release. They included "dubtitles" for the original Japanese cut. It's pretty obvious because they use the changed International cut names like Logan instead of Yama; Ezra instead of Isora; different names for the various superweapons used by the empire against the Arcadia (which were in English to begin with, Lord only knows why they changed those names); etc. If Twilight Time were supposed to be an Arrow Video/Criterion Collection-esque prestige release company, they certainly really dropped the ball here.

I recommend saving some money and grabbing the HK release from Yesasia vs. getting this OOP premium priced release.

Arcadia of My Youth is a terrific film IMO. The BD is by Discotek Media, so it's probably a great release.

  • Starship Troopers: Invasion is fun, probably the best film in the series since the 1997 Verhoeven original. The sequel "Traitor of Mars" isn't too bad either.
  • The Appleseed trilogy is worth a look, the 3rd film of Appleseed Alpha being my favourite.
  • If you like well executed, action schlock then the CGI Resident Evil movies are a lot of fun, especially the later two Damnation and Vendetta. The action choreography in the 3rd act of Vendetta in particular is outstanding IMO, basically gun-fu straight out of Equilibrium.
