![]() Andrzej Zulawski's La Note Bleue (The Blue Note) can be called an event. This is probably the first time that a director has, in all humility, treated the life of a composer – Chopin in this instance – without sacrificing any of his ambitions as a filmmaker. In others words, not for a single moment does he attempt to appropriate or put to his own use the music he is filming. He directs it, and perhaps illustrates it, but in no way reduces it. In La Note Bleue the music therefore serves neither as an excuse nor as a foil. It quite simply is. Invisible by nature, and yet terribly present. Mazurka, Nocturne, Funeral March... Notes heard time and again, but which here regain all their strength, ardor, and virtuosity. New notes altogether, it might seem, and yet profoundly melancholy. Paul Claudel declared "the eye can listen." La Note Bleue proves him to be right, whispering to us that the "ear can see. MONDO VISION presents the first ever North American Blu-ray release of Andrzej Zulawski's La Note Bleue (1991) in an all new 2K digital transfer supervised and approved by the director. Are there any plans to upgrade previous releases to Blu Ray?

I'd love to do more Mondo Vision releases too! Most of the wait on Blue Note was because I was the one guy doing cleanup, grading, conforming audio, and in some points subtitle syncing. Mondo Vision releases don't benefit from an army of restoration artists or any kind of government funding like some projects do.
But since more good masters exist of Zulawski's movies now than compared to, say, 6 years ago, I hope they can up the pace. The Polish films have new restorations, for example. |

Sounds good, thanks for the reply. I will think about placing an order to check them out. Never seen any of Zulawski`s movies before but I have heard about them.
I see that the audio commentary have no english subtitle if I understand correctly, which language is it in? |

Would anyone like to offer up a short description of this movie, perhaps with a mention of similar titles?
I know nothing about it and don't want to find out too much (a Wikipedia entry would probably be too revealing). I knew nothing about Possession but loved it, and I'm tempted to order this just based on the merits of the Possession release. Thanks in advance to anyone who can guide me. |

Possession is the only Zulawski film I've watched so far, and I consider that to be shameful, especially considering how much I love that demented 1981 film; but one of the things that compelled me to blind-buy the Mondo Vision LE blu-ray of Possession was that I had head so many wonderful things about it beforehand, but I know next to nothing about La Note Bleue so I'm a little reluctant about spending 60 dollars on it; which films would those who have seen it compare it to?
