His comment about taking PS3 out of the equation is like me saying "Take the Americans out of WWII, Germany wins." Has a sound bite to it and some element of truth, but it is not REALITY.

All of this offers fodder for both sides of this debate, but one thing cannot be ignored, and that's momentum. And HD DVD owns it despite those disc sales.
Sorry, did I miss something?

I have only a PS3 (no standalone), and I have over 50 Blu-rays now and I barely use it for gaming. I voted for Blu obviously, but I find it interesting and encouraging that an article as misinforming and biased as this one is making little difference in the poll. If people actually read the article, they'd vote for HD-DUD, but Blu still has a commanding lead! Go figure.

What unbiased journalism . The numbers a few weeks ago had HD DVD at 500,00 SALs, and BDs at 350,000 SAL. Now if they are neck and neck on on SALs, how the hell can he say HDDVD has the momentum. Pure and utter FUD!!!

PS Im just about to get PS3 and its just for blu-rays.

SURE Jim, take out Toshiba and there isn't even a competition here.

What a tool.

Good quote and it needs repeating...

Default Yes, please discount the PS3.

It doesn't count. It really, simply doesn't. It's just an attempt to skew facts.
HD-DVD is on the verge of winning and this whole "2-3 million PS3 owners" is just a ploy...a nasty marketing tactic. I really should not have bought a PS3...I think the HD-DVD camp is right and 2 million+ owners really IS a gimmick. I mean, I went and bought a $600 machine and didn't even KNOW it was a Blu-ray player. It's obvious that I didn't know that I didn't know until the HD-DVD camp told me that I didn't know. I'm so glad they informed me before I made a bigger mistake and went out and actually TRIED to buy Blu-ray discs for my "doesn't count statistically" Blu-ray player. Heck, I'm REALLY glad they told me when they did because I was about to go out and blow $$$ on an XBR5 or Kuro Elite to go along with it. I am such a moron.

I know what you're referring to but if he were really a tool he would at the very least be useful. I think moniker is placing to much value on this "writer".

I suppose the poll we really need to take, is how many of us who only own the PS3 would have purchased a stand alone bd player of equal value at the time we purchased the PS3 to play our movies? Provided the PS3 did not exist.

If the PS3 did not exist, I would have purchased the best available standalone player on the market at the time. The PS3 was and always will be a BD player first for me. The PS3 has gotten me back into the realm of casual gaming (I own 11 PS3 games now) but I would not have purchased it save for the excellent built in BD player.
