I was pumped until the details...what a buzz kill. We'll see what happens...it's quite a ways out and I have to believe there is going to be a shake-up on how things are on TV.

We already starting to approach a log jam of extra paid services. They can't all do it and get away with it or be successful with it. I have Netflix, Amazon Prime(Which only makes sense to me because of the free shipping) and my hockey package on top of Fios. Do they really think everyone can pay for all these services? Things(as in TV as we know it) will change and we'll see how they work this out. 2017 is a ways off yet.

Although this gives me another reason to get into the original series and the next generation soon I don't want to have to pay for an additional streaming service to keep up with a franchise I don't know a lot about. Maybe if I enjoy the older series I'll get into it when friends show me pirated episodes.

I'm not a fan of the rebooted "Trek" universe, so if this new show shares it, I'll pass. I'd rather have a show that took place after "Voyager", in the late 24th century so previous cast members could do cameos.

I found the alternate universe to be serviceable for what Abrams wanted to do--tell a new story with characters from TOS. There'd be absolutely no reason to dwell in that alternate universe with a TV series.

I'm kind of worried about the streaming service. If the show is any good, it'll be quite popular on torrent and file sharing websites.

As long as it's back to the original Star Trek Universe it will be worth it. All of the decades of continuity work done deserves to come back.

I want a new universe that isn't beholden to the 1960s view of the future. Start fresh! Make it the 25th or 26th century with a new Kirk and crew or brand new characters.

My biggest beef with "Star Trek" as a whole, was the humanistic "we're all we'll ever need" philosophy. If the new show ditched that policy, I'd be more interested...but all told, I'm just not a rabid Kirk fan. Some of the films were good, but my favorite was always "The Next Generation". Of those which followed it, only "Voyager" got close in quality.

While I prefer the original universe I don't think they will be going back

Well, that's why they placed "Voyager" in the Delta Quadrant; they could do something similar with a new show set somewhere else.

I think its been enough time though. They should give another go at creating a show similar to TNG, taking place perhaps some years after the events of DS9.

Stick it in post Trek 09 where Romulus has been destroyed and destablised the quadrant, could have some old faces pop in for cameos

It was fun to listen to what Ronald D Moore had to say back before BSG ended and everyone realized he was also a hack. Nowadays quoting his endless whines about working on Trek won't get you very far when real fans are in the room (you can also thank JJ for that, who showed us that however bad we thought things could get, they can always get worse).

I hope they just go another few Generations in the Future or just bring back Next Generation. They did it with X-Files, Evil Dead, Twin Peaks and Heroes recently, why not TNG?

I think the income from broadcast revenue would be more than the numbers generated by selling through streaming access only.
