Zavvi has a preorder up for 3D, so at least we know the UK will be getting it.

I saw this on Thursday night and really enjoyed it! Though I think I prefer the first one, this is definitely an enjoyable, worthwhile sequel. The 3D is good, mostly strong throughout. Maybe not quite as strong as the first, but still strong...it'll be easier to compare that when this is out on 3D Blu-Ray.

Just came back from seeing "ALICE", I thought the first film was better. The new one is OK but I think Disney might be in trouble, only three people in the audience???

We also prefer the first one. This one was pretty good. 3D was mostly medium with several medium-strong moments. The preview for Finding Dory had weak 3D, very disappointing. Disney has no cajones. The new Ghostbusters preview had some strong 3D throughout. Saw a teaser for Beauty & the Beast that looks pretty good. |

Was able to check it out in theaters, 3D projection at Cinemark is great and reliable:
Alice Through the Looking Glass 3D: Cinemark 3D 3D Layering: 8/10. Very good 3D layering in the medium 3D range most of the film. A couple brief strong 3D shots that I counted. Some mild 3D. 3D Creativity: 7/10. Some nice shots that look awesome in 3D. (The blue hall with the hanging watches was the strongest 3D shot in the film). 3D Pop Out Count: 4/10. Not a lot of pop outs. 3D Pop Out of Screen Reach: 3/10. Hardly anything broke through the screen. 3D Framing: 8/10. Most of the film keeps the 3D in mind. 3D Total: 8/10. Respectable, very good medium layered 3D presentation. Notes: I had to sit straight up to get the most of the 3D effect. Leaning back in those seats diminishes the 3D impact as the glasses tilt upwards instead of direct with the screen. Center, midway seat. Previews: Beauty and the Beast 3D: Teaser trailer has medium 3D. Finding Dory 3D: Thoroughly medium 3D from Pixar. Not as good as The Good Dinosaur, but decent. Ghostbusters 3D: Medium and strong 3D mix. Very good. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shadows 3D: Medium all the way. This has me concerned that it won't match the strong 3D of part 1.... Quote:

I'm looking forward to seeing this in IMAX 3D next Tuesday. From the trailers I expect the 3D to be great.

The 3D is very good medium layering, though I wouldn't say great.

Box Office Mojo is saying it's the second highest grossing movie this weekend? really? aren't we being a tad too presumptuous - Sunday isn't even over? I think this will be another dud for Disney. (I plan on seeing it later in the week).

Depp hasn't had a good track record with the movies he's chosen for widescreen theatrical release. Same would be safe to say for Chris Hemsworth's choices lately aside from Thor. The competition in theaters also affects how many go to see a movie. But yeah, I can't see this doing well in the US, though worldwide it has potential to make its money back to some degree. The First Alice in Wonderland made a billion dollars worldwide back in 2010 or so.

I'll have to watch that again, but I see what you're saying. Especially when Christoph Waltz was interrogating the undercover Brad Pitt with his comical accent, trying to get the facts.

Saw ATTLG yesterday in IMAX 3D and I have to say that I loved the film. I thought it was great fun and super imaginative with tons of great performances from the amazing cast.
As for the 3D, I rather enjoyed it. It is true that pop-puts are scarce but, on the other hand, the image was always very deep, like a window into another world. [Show spoiler] The image was also very rich in layers. One of the things I noticed was that while in the first film almost everything CG seemed to have been rendered in native 3D leaving the conversion almost strictly to the live-action shots and plates, this time around even CG heavy moments seemed to have been completely converted into the stereoscopic format.
