You're spot on McC, I've just tried the UK discs on my Panny and they do the same thing, from S4 onwards the Japanese menus etc will come up. But when I tried the language workaround before the Japanese didn't work at all for S1 so I didn't mention it any further, nor try it on any other seasons.

This is not the first:

"Runner Runner" (Fox Spain) - hidden Japanese audio and subs on disc, but no Japanese menus.
"Penguins of Madagascar" (Russia) - hidden Japanese audio and subs on disc, but no Japanese menus.
"Arrow: Season 1" (Warner US) - hidden Japanese audio and subs on disc, but no Japanese menus.
"Supernatural: Season 8" (Warner US) - hidden Japanese audio and subs on disc, but no Japanese menus.

But the respective Japanese editions include a Japanese menu screen added, so they are accessible on those discs.

McCrutchy, are the audio and subs consistent with all the seasons, as in do they have the same audio and subtitle options for all 9 seasons?

Very intriguing. I guess this happens when the Japanese materials are not yet ready, but the disc template has already been authored. Or it's simply done deliberately, to discourage Japanese importers.

I did get your PM, but I have been under the weather in a bad way recently, which has limited my abilities. I'm hoping to check everything today, including the X-Files discs.
