These "hackers" aren't in this for proving how secure PSN and Live are. They just want their 15 minutes of fame for doing a DDoS during Christmas, which the media will gladly make a fuss about. If these people were actually worried about security and not in it for shits and giggles, they would target things that really matter, not a couple of console networks.

I remember hearing from somewhere that Microsoft and Sony were preparing for the attacks weeks ago. Very happy that they've both prevented those idiotic children from doing something useless and stupid.

Yeah I bought a PS4 Battlefront bundle and my kid and I were quite bummed that we haven't received the verification email for our PSN account yet. Slightly frustrated, but really thankful that I grabbed the Inifinity stuff as he's content with that for now

Of course. These kids aren't actually hackers. They Tweens in their parents basements. All this talk of "hacking to protect the consumer" and they spend their time pestering people who just want to play games. If they have a crap about any of the stuff they spouted off about, they'd hack to spill information on banking schemes or something, instead of preventing people from playing games at Christmas.
