Your post sounds like it's a year old.

Go the "4K Blu-ray Confirmed" thread from 2014 and you'll find exactly what you have just written.

People in late 2014 were looking for detail and people were telling them, "...I am sure there will be a big showing for this format at CES which is only a few weeks away". Of course, that was for CES 2015.

Now you're telling us that the big showing will be at CES 2016?

The big news is always coming at the NEXT electronics show.

That's not the case for UHD as PC drives might not even get on the market, and the next-gen consoles are not going to support them (99% sure)

So the only thing in common with the previous format is the laser color, but so did CD and DVD...
OS makers are dropping movie disc support, hell even disc formats all together

NO
there are movies in my collection that I have no wish to watch again, so why would I replace those in my collection?

For those of us who went crazy over the decades building up a DVD collection by the thousands and then having to replace said collection to Bluray because it just wasn't up to par with Full HD, is history going to repeat itself?
probably

The people who have now accumulated upwards of 1000, 2000 or 3000 Blurays...how do you feel?
great, you can wait for ever and never have nothing since there will always be something better around the corner. I bought those BDs and I enjoyed them for nearly 10 years now.
Quote:
So where do you stand on the matter? Are you excited with the new format or are you frustrated? What are the biggest factors for you moving forward...?
my only frustration is that there might be some titles that require an internet connection and from what I have read so far (might be out of date) it is not clear.
As for buying movies I take a simplistic view of it. If I want to watch a film I buy it so that I can, if I watch it once (because I only wish to watch it once) or a million times (because I want to watch it all those 1M times) I don't see any difference in value. The same here. I will wait and see the difference. If it is worth it I will re-buy and don't care, if it is not worth it I might stick with the BDs I own and buy new releases in UHD, if the difference is something I want I will rebuy and who cares what I own on BD (the same way I don't care what I owned on DVD and other formats before DVD)

I love how when you quote me you cut off the first part of my post because it somewhat undermines the point you are trying to make. Rather than address it much easier to just cut it out of the quote

I will probably manage the transition similarly to how I did with BD/DVD.. the only difference being I have just bought a new TV and it's 1080P - but I don't mind future-proofing for when that gets replaced.

I will probably start buying new films on the new format, to build a collection, and if old titles I like have a significantly upgraded presentation (there are many films that don't max out blu-ray) I will probably get them.

I still have a number of films I have on DVD that haven't come out on BD, and are probably unlikely to in the near future.

It'll be a while before I buy a 4k television, let alone 4k blu-rays. Time will tell, however.

from what ive seen from the HDR i have viewed, I will certainly be interested in 4k HDR versions of my favorite movies, but not all of them (too much $$).

I think once people see how much better/how good it looks, they will also want to see their favorite movies in the new format.

some movies i will no doubt double dip with 4k HDR should they release:

max mad
jurassic world
furious 7
avatar
pixels (not a great movie but it would look crazy with HDR color).

im sure theres more, but off hand this is all i can think of :P

Default Don't iTunes / Amazon offer UHD?

I would have thought one of the digital platforms would leapfrog Discs by offering UHD content. Surprised if iTunes or Amazon don't offer it. That would be the most logical option, since Blu Ray disc owners like us will likely want a digital copy as well. Might as well kill two birds (& our wallets) with one stone.

No.

I've recently given up upgrading DVDs to blu-ray this year. There are so many movies out there I would love to own and see that I would rather spend money on than re-buying movies I already own. Unless the DVD quality is especially bad, I don't worry about upgrading anymore.

So I'm assuming it'll be the same with 4k. If there's something I want that I don't already own, I'll go for the highest quality (unless the price difference is too great).

I'm not buying my collection again. I haven't seen that big of a difference in movies. I'll just buy new movies in 4K, once they're affordable.

No. I going to be sensible and stick with Blu-ray for new titles for the foreseeable future.

No more than I upgraded my entire DVD collection. I still have DVDs for some movies I didn't love enough to buy again or simply aren't available on Blu.

For 4K, I may upgrade some movies eventually, but most of my 4K purchases (once I have a 4K player and TV) will be new movies released in that format. I might circle back and upgrade some more of my BD's once 4KBD reaches a point like BD is at now, and titles are relatively cheap.
