Nice to see this given the Dolby Atmos treatment. The original Blu-ray missed out on this.

Very cool.

I do own the blu-ray, but today decided to pre-order this uhd hdr version since it's only $21. The blu ray looks very good so the uhd version should be gorgeous.

Yeah I heard you. I'm happy I don't own the reg Blur-ray.

Why not pre-order UltraHD 4K?

I did!

Also have XM: DOFP in cart, but will have to wait until they confirm Rogue cut---I'm not buying any potential double dips. If they can't put some seamless branching on this new format---I'm not buying titles that have multiple versions.

The mgo version that's hdr is the Rogue cut. But now that you mention it, the slip cover for the uhd disc is not the Rogue cut slip cover.

I am still hoping the 4K version contains both cuts and that they picked the theatrical cover simply because it looks better.

Same here, perfect chance. Only thing that would make it perfect until my own 4K setup is done is to have the Atmos on the blu-ray but you can't get it all.

I like Sonys approach here, releasing 4K mastered blu-rays with upgraded sound before their UHD discs.

Funny that Best Buy has this title for $29.99... Guess I either call Best Buy to price match or just get it through Amazon.

what the ... ? I didn't think stores could post more than the MSRP - which for this is 22.99 - that ain't right.

Could be a place holder price, but you are right that is messed up for them to price higher than MSRP.

MSRP is manufacturer's suggested retail price. Maybe it's not common in the US to have a price higher than the MSRP, however in Australia most things are. Go into a book store or electronics store and you'll see something with an MSRP of USD$8.99 (it's written on the back) being sold for $25 AUD which is right now ~$17 US. So frustrating.

I have a question about the martian. The CGI is 2k, while the camera footage is 4k right? So wouldn't the face of Matt Damon still be 4k through his visor, while the CGI visor itself is 2k (the glass + reflections). So you'll be able to see more detail in the facial pores and beard hair and stuff right?

If so, that makes me less worried about the 2k CGI up-scaling, however there are considerable scenes in Enders Game that are entirely CGI ships and stuff which is a shame.

heres the thing that most people arent realizing/considering: any decent CGI will look very good when upscaled or given HDR treatment. the CGI in the martian looks amazing. the CGI smurfs in smurfs 2 are just unreal looking. So try not to worry about it until you actually see it
