Hmm... I'm wondering if this is the non-restored master that Sony still uses for streaming. However, if it uses the same master from the Japanese blu, this could be the first (official) English-friendly release.

I read somewhere (maybe this forum?) that it's the old Sony master with missing audio and dubtitles.

I'd love that to be wrong...

Oh gee, I wonder where they got the cover from? That sure is some lazy cover design on the part of the Australian blu-ray cover designer. I think I should apply for that job. No skills needed.

Is there some law somewhere that says that if you use 1 JC image once that you have to use it a thousand times? JC just can't win.

If it's the old track then the Cantonese audio will revert to the English dub at some point. Also check to see whether the "subs" match the English dub.

Hang on, I've got one question. What Japanese master? I thought that this was the Japanese master. Is their any screenshots of it?

There are screenshots taken from the Sony Japanese blu-ray edition. Here you go: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...=229887&page=3

That is a link to the thread here on this very site.

Not sure what master is used for the Australian blu-ray though. I have the Japanese box set and will not upgrade until there is a release with English subs using the same master or better.

So it is true HD, but it's not the same remaster as the one on the Japanese release? How much better is the Japanese release?

I'm getting to the point where I think I'd almost rather just buy the Japanese release, even without English support of any kind, just because I know the movie so well (and the plot isn't that important, anyway) that I just want to appreciate it in its best visual glory, if the Japanese one is significantly better than the Australian in that regard, I know the one for me (and same goes for Snake in the Eagle's Shadow, I'd buy the two-pack!).

What's this about Twilight Time? Are they really releasing it (just Drunken Master, or also Snake...?) If they do, they will definitely use the remaster, right?

I posted the link to the screenshots of the Japanese edition in the previous post. But, just in case you missed it, here it is:
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...=229887&page=3

No idea what the Australian version is using. It was mentioned that it was not as good as the Japanese release.

It was rumored that Twilight Time were going to release these two movies sometime this year but no word about it yet. So, maybe it was just a rumor or perhaps they will release it a later date. And, no idea what master they will use.

Sorry for the thread bump, I was almost going to pick this up for AU$8 from Amazon AU but it sounds as lame as the original US release that I once owned on DVD paying an absurd $50 for (!!) back in the old days

I hated the in & out audio going from cantonese to english in the early scenes, really killed the vibe and at the time I didn't understand what was going on - made it seem like a bad pirated copy. Sounds like I should buy the Eureka version despite the 3x cost because I'm not 'upgrading' for the disjointed audio track

The Eureka release is the definitive single disc legit release of DM that I know of. It’s just that the Japanese box set had both DM and SITES. Still waiting on a definitive single disc version of SITES.

Might come in September in Germany from Koch Media. Features confirmed so far include Cantonese and English audio and English subtitles.
If they don't blow it this release should make everybody happy.

Went with the Eureka version in the end, more expensive sadly but I'm not willing to support local aussie crappy releases with zero effort which seems to happen ALL the time with asian classics & if it does get released its usually on 20 year old DVD format

The missing original dub is a shame yet I didn't grow up on the dub, only ever known the cantonese with random mix of english
