This show is Training Day in name only. You knew that on CBS it would be a toothless program.

It is connected to the movie although lightly.

Marianne Jean-Baptiste's character mentioned Alonzo Harris (Denzel's character from the movie) and asked if Kyle Craig was familiar with the case. He mentioned that he studied it in Ethics class in college.

I have to get around to finish watching the rest of the first episode. I lost interest and felt that Bill Paxton was being wasted, although there were glimmers of hope with real villianous looks from him showing up here and there. CBS should sell it off to TNT or AMC...

I'm actually enjoying the series. While it's not the best adaption, it's being produced by Antoine Fuqua and Jerry Bruckheimer. Will be interesting to see if it can hold its own.

I love Bill " game over, man...game over!" Paxton. I've been enjoying the TV series but agree it doesn't translate from the movie to TV at all.

I liked it the first episode or 2 .... before they did the same thing every type of this show does... the " GQ models team members" approach.

Every time I see the guy that looks exactly like a thinner Thor Jr. , I just laugh.

I'll watch for Paxton and the main cop... but yeah, no way is this getting a season 2.

I have to admit, I don't see this surviving past the first season either. It just doesn't have that type of long term stability. Viewers will start tapering off. This would have better as a series of tele-films, sort of like the Jesse Stone television film series.

Emmy-Winning Actor Bill Paxton Dead at 61 Due to Complications from Surgery

Bummer, another actor dying just as they get a boost to their career. Guess that pretty much seals the shows fate.

It looks like this series is done. Unless they bring in another actor. This is very sad news.

Ethan Hawke would be a suitable choice. They already completed filming the first season, and odds are it would have been cancelled after anyway.

I just heard that Bill Paxton had completed the first season filming. Least CBS has some leadway to bring in a replacement actor as the senior training officer that Bill Paxton portrayed. I hope they don't use the same character but rather that they create a new character for the second season.

I've watched this show strictly for Bill Paxton. Love his character.

So glad to hear the rest of this season was already done shooting.

Unless Ethan Hawk would somehow be brought in, which is likely highly doubtful, this show will officially be done after season 1.

BUT, it will be really special for the rest of this season to spend a little more time with Bill.

Rest In Peace, Bill Paxton. Seemed like a great guy. You will be missed.

I still think that CBS will just find another actor to replace Bill Paxton, possibly have it for a recurring theme, a new character for each season.

A second season isn't happening. We should be glad that cbs didn't pull it like Doubt. The ratings have been very bad and cbs doesn't own the show.

Bill Paxton was the only reason I was watching this show. This show can't survive w/o him.

I agree. While I'm not a core fan, I've enjoyed his large body of work. I first caught him in Aliens and Twister and then his brief stint in Agents of SHIELD was actually cool. While his acting in Training Day wasn't that great, I still enjoyed watching the series. But, it seems all of the entertainment website sand blogs are spreading their usual "doom and gloom" about how horrible the series is.

Personally, I think they should bring Ethan Hawke into the series. He hasn't been in any remarkable films lately, except the usual 'entertainment industry acting' work that he has been getting. It would also tie the movie into the TV series in a more direct way. It could also give the series a nice bump in the ratings. If they can;t get Ethan Hawke, Leonardo DiCaprio would be a nice replacement for Bill Paxton. His acting has gotten a lot better with works like Blood Diamond and The Revenant.

The network isn't sure if they should even air the rest of the episodes that Bill had finished filming before he passed away recently.

I can see the Ethan Hawke angle. Especially if he plays the same character from the movie. I question if CBS would be willing to pay him what they would need to in order for him to say yes.

No way they could afford Leo...not for this show.

If they do continue the series, if they do bring in a replacement actor for that character, I think they'd need to hire someone like Michael Wincott, Robert Knepper, Tony Todd....or some other actor who generally plays sleazy type bad guys.
